Job Summary

Analyze and evaluate telecom network assets and maintain documentation to support monetization and business development opportunities. Manage and facilitate execution and maintenance of telecom asset sharing agreements.

Job Description

What you'll do:

  • Learns and adheres to policies, procedures, standards, codes, and regulations relevant to assignments.
  • Pursues Zero Harm.
  • Develops knowledge of American Electric Power (AEP) networks, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
  • Learns AEP's organizational structure and specific role and responsibility of one's individual organizational unit.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Telecom Network Analysis & Feasibility

  • Perform technical assessments of telecom assets, including fiber availability, routing, capacity, and infrastructure constraints.
  • Review and interpret network diagrams, oneline drawings, AutoCAD files, and KMZ maps to evaluate feasibility and optimization opportunities.
  • Identify network gaps, risks, and opportunities to support asset leasing, thirdparty use, or utility sharing.
  • Recommend technically and contractually viable solutions, including alternate routes when capacity or ownership constraints exist.
  • Analyze and differentiate telecom traffic routing across companyowned versus thirdparty infrastructure.

2. Contract Support

  • Support development, execution, and maintenance of telecom assetuse agreements, including:
    • Communication Services
    • Colocation agreements
    • Fiber leases
    • Indefeasible Rights of Use (IRUs)
    • Structure attachment agreements
  • Translate OSP and network configurations into clear graphical representations and contractual language.
  • Identify and document telecommunication traffic placed on noncompany owned assets in support of contractual, financial, and compliance requirements.
  • Work with internal and external legal professionals.

3. Stakeholder Engagement & Workflow Management

  • Manage Business Development (ABD) inquiries from intake through assessment and project handoff.
  • Coordinate ServiceNow tasking, documentation updates, approvals, and status tracking.
  • Partner with Business Development, Engineering, Field, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and timely execution.
  • Prepare conceptual scopes, feasibility summaries, and assessment recommendations for stakeholder review.

4. Documentation, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Compile and maintain technical, customer, and contractual data required for feasibility assessments and agreements.
  • Produce structured assessment reports summarizing findings, risks, and recommendations.
  • Ensure all work complies with company standards, internal policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain thorough records of communications, changes, approvals, and final documents.
  • Archive all project and assessment materials for audit support and future planning.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study
  • Or associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.

Experience:

  • No additional experience, other than what is listed above, is required.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License is Required.

In addition:

  • Possess entry to basic level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.
  • Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle basic assignments. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)
  • Exhibit fundamental understanding for pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems and business processes.
  • Use initiative in looking for opportunities and presenting new ideas and new approaches Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a team player Relates to people in an open, friendly and sincere manner Use initiative in looking for opportunities to increase job knowledge and technical skills.
