Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for managing, monitoring and improving the Safety, Environmental and Emergency Management programs with a primary goal being the safety of the patients, visitors, associates and physicians. Similarly, he/she is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the hospital compliance with TJC, OSHA, EPA, as well as other federal, state and local regulations pertaining to safety, environmental protection and emergency management. He/She provides management of the regional OhioHealth Safety Officers and expertise to appropriate hospital personnel regarding the safety programs. Serves on the leadership team of the System VP of Quality and contributes to the development and execution of the broader OhioHealth strategy for quality and safety.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • 50% Develops and drives the standardization of a system safety management program including accreditation, safety, environmental and emergency management at all OhioHealth business units. Support the strategic plan of the department, and use it as a “true north” for all initiatives. Supports the structure and success of the Safety Management System. Influences continual improvement of compliance by collaborating with key stakeholders in a value-added culture. Analyzes key safety metrics to ensure agility of the safety department in a constantly evolving environment. Assists the Director and Senior Consultants in forecasting future needs and strategic planning. Collaborates with internal Subject Matter Experts (Senior Consultants) on projects and initiatives. Work with advisors to standardize vendors, equipment, and all Safety Officer processes across the system. Using lean methodology, identify gaps and risks across the system and work with key stakeholders to close those gaps. Act as main point of contact for safety regulatory compliance issues
  • 25% Develop and foster relationships with key internal departments (Protective Services, EVS, Infection Control, Facilities, Associate Health, etc.). Develop and standardize a value-added data and information reporting structure. Encourage inclusion across the system in large scope initiatives
  • 25% Standardize development of the Site Safety Officers. Create an onboarding program for new Site Safety Officers. Identifies training needs as a result of risk assessments, new regulations or incident reviews. Plans, monitors and effectively manages an operating and capital budget for assigned areas of responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Safety (Required)

Experience in the application of TJC Environment of Care, Life Safety and Emergency Management standards, occupational safety and health regulations including industrial hygiene and environmental regulations and emergency management.
