What are Remote Python jobs?

Remote Python jobs are positions where you work primarily with the Python programming language but do so from a location outside of a traditional office, such as your home or another remote location. These jobs can include roles like software developer, data analyst, backend engineer, or machine learning engineer, all of which use Python for building applications, analyzing data, or automating tasks. Remote Python jobs are popular due to Python's versatility and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, experience with software development life cycles, and a relevant degree or professional experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and frameworks such as Django or Flask is typically required, along with knowledge of remote collaboration tools like Slack and Jira. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for remote team integration and project delivery. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality code development, seamless teamwork, and the ability to meet project goals independently in a remote environment.

What Are Remote Jobs That Use Python?

Remote jobs that use Python focus on coding software and applications to meet the needs or business objectives of your employer. This may involve working with a database, customizing an existing application, or otherwise modifying software based on its expected environment. You can also find a few remote roles that allow you to teach Python instead of using it. Many remote jobs that use Python also involve coding in other common languages as necessary—Python may be the bulk of the work, but the ability to switch to other modes of programming as needed is essential for success in this field. As a remote employee or independent contractor, you may use virtual office software to coordinate with others, upload software into a central database for testing, or work odd hours to meet the needs of your client.

What is the difference between Remote Python vs Remote Data Analyst?

How do Remote Python Developers typically collaborate and communicate with their teams?

Remote Python Developers often work closely with distributed teams using collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, and GitHub. Clear communication and regular check-ins are essential for syncing on project requirements, code reviews, and troubleshooting. Developers are encouraged to document their code thoroughly and proactively update their progress to ensure smooth workflow across different time zones. This environment fosters independence and strong written communication skills, while also providing opportunities to participate in virtual standups, sprint planning, and peer programming sessions.

Job description

Who We Are

At Onsetto, we're building more than technology, we're building the future of business banking.

Trusted by financial institutions across the country, Onsetto is helping banks grow deposits, win operating relationships, and transform how they serve businesses. Following our recent $9 million seed funding round, we're entering an exciting new phase of growth and looking for ambitious, entrepreneurial people who want to help shape what comes next.

What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs
  • Own specific systems or components, including their reliability in production
  • Debug complex issues across services, infrastructure, and data flows
  • Improve system performance, scalability, and fault tolerance
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and release quality
  • Use LLM tools effectively to accelerate development while maintaining quality
  • Participate in incident response and lead root cause analysis efforts
  • Collaborate with product and engineering to define clear, testable solutions
  • Contribute to system design decisions and technical tradeoffs

This role is for engineers who can independently own meaningful parts of a system.

As an Engineer II, you are expected to move beyond execution and take responsibility for how systems behave in production. You will design, build, and improve services while owning their reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability.

You will work across backend systems, infrastructure, and reliability, with increasing responsibility for decision-making and system design.

We operate at the intersection of:

  • AI systems running in real production environments
  • Regulated financial systems requiring auditability and control

What we build must work consistently, under real constraints, at scale.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5 or more years of experience building production software systems
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Python preferred)
  • Experience designing and building APIs and working with databases
  • Solid understanding of system design fundamentals (scalability, reliability, failure modes)
  • Ability to debug across layers (application, infrastructure, data)
  • Demonstrated ownership of systems or major features
  • Comfort working in environments with real operational constraints

Extra Credit

  • You have owned a system or service in production
  • You proactively identify and fix reliability or performance issues
  • You think in terms of tradeoffs, not just implementation
  • You improve systems beyond your immediate scope
  • You use tools (including AI) to increase speed without sacrificing quality
  • You help raise the bar for those around you

What Success Looks Like

  • Systems you own are stable, reliable, and well understood
  • Production issues are identified, resolved, and learned from quickly
  • You reduce dependency on more senior engineers for execution
  • You make sound technical decisions with limited guidance
  • You improve how the team builds, tests, and ships software

Who Should NOT Apply

  • You are looking for a purely remote role
  • You prefer narrowly scoped tasks over system-level ownership
  • You are not interested in production responsibility or operational accountability
  • You rely heavily on direction for technical decisions
  • You avoid debugging complex, ambiguous problems
  • You are not interested in improving systems beyond your assigned work

What You Can Expect

  • The opportunity to take real ownership of your work and make a visible impact
  • Broad hands-on experience across multiple areas of the business
  • The ability to help shape processes, systems, and how the company operates
  • Direct exposure to leadership and strategic decision-making
  • A high-trust environment with low bureaucracy and meaningful responsibility
  • A team that values accountability, clarity, consistency, and strong execution
  • Flexible PTO
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible employees
  • Access to HSA plan options
  • Paid parental leave
  • An environment best suited for people who want to build, improve, and contribute beyond a narrow job description

If you want to take the step from contributor to owner - and are willing to be held accountable for system outcomes - this is the role for you.
