Job description

Burns & McDonnell's Midwest region is seeking a self-motivated, senior-level environmental remediation Project Manager to grow our remediation practice in Ohio and join our team of talented and successful environmental professionals.

This position blends project management, technical leadership, and business development. The successful candidate will partner with practice leadership to drive growth in the region by managing complex projects, leading sales and marketing activities, contributing to business and strategic planning, maintaining quality and safety programs, and developing outstanding client relationships.

The successful candidate should possess a diverse investigation and remedial design background, project/program management skills, and regulatory knowledge (RCRA/CERCLA and state-specific requirements for site investigation, remediation, and closure). Considerable experience with various remedial technologies is desired to optimize site closure. Experience in successful execution of subsurface and sediment investigations, including development of conceptual models is a plus. Existing client relationships are highly preferred. Travel is required and professional registration (PE or PG, and/or CP (OH)) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of the strategic business plan to develop and expand the firm's remediation practice within the Midwest region, including creating new project opportunities and expanding existing client relationships.

  • Identify and support the recruitment of key individuals necessary to grow the practice area and support key regional initiatives.

  • This role includes marketing and business development responsibilities, requiring regular meetings and correspondence with clients, agencies, subcontractors, or outside personnel.

  • Responsible for preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals for a range of investigation/remediation projects.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members and coordinate departmental project studies, reports, or project design assignments.

  • Manage project implementation, QA/QC, project scheduling, and project budgets.

  • Lead preparation of work plans, investigation reports, feasibility studies, remedial design, and implementation for both federal and state lead programs.

  • Utilize data management tools and visualization models or technologies to support project execution.

  • Manage technical aspects of investigation and remediation projects, potentially including design-build or Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) approaches to remedial construction.

  • Manage individual projects and supervise and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Participate in business planning and business development efforts to support the growth of the Columbus-based environmental practice across the Midwest.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of 7 years of related professional experience investigating and remediating environmental sites experience. 10 years of experience highly preferred.

  • Project management experience is required.

  • Strong understanding and current knowledge of applicable remediation technologies and techniques.

  • Report, design, and bid package preparation experience.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Mining experience is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage technical projects and lead remediation design efforts.

  • Ability to work within a team framework. Self-motivation and the ability to multi-task (write reports, analyze data, perform design tasks, etc.) are also a prerequisite.

  • Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of project-related matters.
