Job description

Joe Knows Energy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Inspector to support multiple infrastructure and construction projects throughout the NYC region. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who thrives in fast-paced field environments and can adapt quickly while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and accountability.


This role will support multiple active projects and requires the ability to move between job sites as project phases progress.


Per diem / travel reimbursement is available for this position.

Compensation:

$100,000+


Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and inspect electrical installations of service equipment (meter pan, service disconnect, ATS, main power panel, etc.) for natural gas regulator stations, gate stations, intake stations, based on design drawings and project scope in proximity to hazardous locations (NEC 500).
  • Review contractor documentation and verify compliance with NEC, Local Utility Codes (ConEd or PSEG), and NESC standards.
  • Monitor and inspect any additional electrical work specified in the scope of work outside of service equipment (Indoor/outdoor lighting fixtures, electrical outlets, etc.).
  • Ensure proper trenching and conduit installation coordination with National Grid I&R technicians.
  • Verify installation and upgrading of site grounding systems per NEC and local standards.
  • Confirm that contractors use specified materials and properly install all required components, including panels, breakers, ground rods, conduit, wiring, and related items.
  • Maintain detailed inspection reports, document deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and communicate with National Grid project managers, construction supervisors, and contractors to promptly resolve compliance issues.
  • Monitor and inspect the installation of H-frames and associated service equipment. Ensure compliance with design and safety standards, and local utility code for meter pan and disconnect installation.
  • Verify conduit installation and wire pulling operations, including inspection of U guard installation. (ROW)
  • Ensure hold-offs and safety tags are properly placed prior to the start of each workday. (ROW)
  • Provide final approval to the contractor prior to site restoration. 

Qualifications:
  • Licensed Professional Electrician (state-recognized license required).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical inspection or installation for large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality work and enforce safety and compliance standards.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, and local utility codes (ConEd/PSEG), ensuring correct installation of overcurrent protection devices, ground equipment, appropriately sized cables, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical design drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in documentation and reporting for regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with strong abilities in coordination, planning, organization, and computer proficiency.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively and diplomatically with diverse stakeholders, including gas and electric customers, government officials, and other external parties.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with utility coordination (ConEd, PSEG, National Grid).
  • Familiarity with fire alarm systems.
  • OSHA safety certification.
  • Experience with Primavera and Urbint is a plus.
