Job description

Position Overview

The Project Safety Specialist partners with site leadership and craft personnel to promote a proactive, behavior-based safety culture. This is a highly visible, field-based role focused on both compliance and engagement.
Minimum Qualifications

  • OSHA 500 (Construction Trainer) – required 
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience 
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety practices 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical/report writing 
Preferred Qualifications

  • CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) certification 
  • Background in construction trades or the power/utility industry 
  • Experience working on large-scale or complex job sites 
Core Safety Knowledge & Training

Candidates should have training and working knowledge in:
  • Excavation & trenching safety 
  • Confined space entry 
  • Fall protection systems 
  • Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) 
  • NFPA 70E and general electrical safety 
  • Scaffolding safety 
  • CPR / AED / First Aid 
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead new hire orientations and daily pre-shift safety huddles 
  • Conduct ongoing behavior-based safety observations (both positive and corrective) 
  • Serve as a safety resource for the client, supervision, and field personnel 
  • Coach and communicate with crews to correct unsafe behaviors using a constructive, teaching-focused approach 
  • Document safety observations using standardized reports or safety management systems 
  • Conduct and support incident investigations and follow-up actions 
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk active construction sites up to 90% of the workday 
  • Must be able to climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain, and work in varying site conditions
