Job description

Following its acquisition by Polargy, Action Group is entering a period of focused growth and organizational transformation. Under new leadership and a clearly defined strategic direction, the company is investing in its people, strengthening operational processes, and expanding production capabilities to support a more collaborative, high-performing manufacturing culture. Action Group, based in Columbus, Ohio, is a leading provider of steel-fabricated solutions for the data center industry. We are currently seeking an Industrial Painter to support our growing manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and applying primer.
  • Select and mix appropriate paints according to specifications.
  • Apply paint and other coatings to various materials and surfaces.
  • Ensure that the final coatings meet quality standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

Skills and Qualifications:

  •       One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •       Experience with industrial or automotive painting, powder coating, or metal finishing.
  •       Knowledge of paint mixing, surface prep, and spray application techniques.
  •       Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, or coating specifications.
  •       Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  •       Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in environments with fumes, noise, or PPE requirements.
  •       Experience in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  •       Familiarity with powder coating systems.
  •       Forklift or overhead crane operation experience
  •       Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  •      Strong math and problem-solving abilities.
  •      Efficient time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Painting & Coating

  • Apply primers, industrial coatings, and finishing paint using spray guns, HVLP systems, or other approved methods.
  • Mix paints, coatings, and solvents according to manufacturer specifications.
Surface Preparatio
  • Clean, sandblast, grind, or chemically prepare metal surfaces prior to painting. Fill seams, smooth surfaces, and remove imperfections to ensure proper coating adhesion.

Quality Control

  • Inspect painted components for runs, sags, defects, or coverage issues.
  • Verify coatings meet technical specifications, blueprints, or work orders.
  • Rework or touch up parts as needed to meet quality standards.
  • Achieve correct Wet and Dry film thickness, color match, and required finish quality. Complete other job duties as assigned.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Set up, operate, and maintain painting equipment, spray booths, ovens, and curing systems.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of tools and spray equipment.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Record paint usage, lot numbers, batch mixes, and job completion data.
  • Record and document VOC data requirements.
  • Follow work orders, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality guidelines.
