Job description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Capital University Chief of Police Public Safety, the Sergeant assists with the overall supervision of the department. Provides a safe and secure environment for the University Community and all of its members. Takes a lead role in responding to major incidents on campus affecting the interests of the University or the department. Provides a variety of services which enhance the quality of life on campus, maintain satisfactory working relationships with peers, supervisors, students, faculty, staff, local police, and the general public.

Responsibilities:

  • Enforces State, Local and University laws, rules and regulations.
  • Assists with the overall supervision of the department.
  • Takes a lead role in responding to major incident reports.
  • Participates in the professional development of the University and the department.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and skills at a level normally acquired through the completion of a high school education or equivalency.
  • Minimum of five years prior experience in law enforcement required, or three years and an associate degree in criminal justice.
  • Possess an Ohio Police Commission or the ability to obtain certification within three months of hire.
  • Valid Ohio motor vehicle operator's license. Current driver's license record must not reflect six points or more.
  • Excellent professional communication skills (verbal and written).
  • This position may expect irregular working hours and days off, including weekends and holidays.
