About the Position:

Under limited supervision performs all aspects of materials & distribution services. Responsible for shipping, receiving and distribution functions of materials (ILL, retail items, mail, books, etc.)

Position Schedule

  • Monday-Friday - 8am-12pm

What You’ll Do:

  • Receives, sorts and delivers incoming parcels and mail; verifies/signs for receipt of material. Resolves problems related to receipt of packages and mail; determines recipient and readdresses undeliverable items (incomplete or inaccurate address). Collects outgoing shipments and mail and prepares items for delivery by CML Transportation, U.S. Postal Service, shipping services or special couriers and thenproperly routes registered mail receipts.
  • Operates postage meter equipment.
  • Performs simple mathematical calculations for fees/postage.
  • Receives, inspects and confirms accuracy and condition of shipments (including breakdown of mass orders); notifies recipients and coordinates internal delivery of all in-bound shipments.
  • Returns items incorrectly prepared by vendors.
  • Handles all paperwork involved with shipping, receiving and distribution, and routes it to the appropriate location
  • Works with Public Services staff to prepare mail delivery and return of materials for services such as Inter-Library Loan (ILL) and Homebound delivery.
  • Supports Youth Services materials management by sorting, packaging, shipping, storing and organizing books and other supplies.
  • Processes any non-Library materials, returning them to the owning librarysystem.
  • Manages inventory and fills requests for supplies.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in mail/inventory/distribution services preferred.
  • Ability to perform alphabetic and numeric filing and sorting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to complete simple numerical calculations.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information and multitask.
  • Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems.
  • Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).

Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 100 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 50 lbs.
