Job description

Coordinates with teachers of students with moderate, severe and profound and/or multiple developmental disabilities in order to provide functional curriculum skill development through fine arts activities, which include music and art programming for all students; designs special instructional and community experiences to enhance creative expression and enjoyment of fine arts; utilizes a consultative teaching mode with teachers to support use of fine arts in classroom instruction, therapy, community awareness and to promote generalization across settings

Participates as a member of the transdisciplinary team working with other professional staff in assessing, developing, implementing, evaluating and modifying the Individualized Education Program for assigned students; performs assessment of arts-related interests and abilities for student small groups and individual instruction through informal methods and observation in order to obtain insights that can be included in each student's transition plan;

Plans, develops and implements written daily lesson plans for arts activities or in the community in order to facilitate accomplishment of Functional Curriculum goals through a variety of arts media; organizes appropriate spectator and performance activities to promote inclusion with children without disabilities, and to participate in appropriate community-based arts-related events and services; Collaborate with other specialists, therapists and instructors for joint activities

Performs other related duties as assigned to include searching for resources outside of the school-age setting to support the Life Skills Curriculum.
