Job description

Position Summary

The Planning/Layout/Design Specialist is involved in the planning, layout, design, coordination and pre-fabrication on projects. This person has a thorough knowledge of electrical systems, construction documents, and quality construction work practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains regular contact with project personnel as well as professional relationships with designers, owners, and subcontractors
  • Outlines job specifications and reviews material submittals for project requirements
  • Supports preconstruction, pre-fabrication and construction teams with electrical/systems/ construction related issues
  • Aids in the creation of detailed bill of materials
  • Educates field personnel on layout/design processes and supports project efforts
  • Creates detailed layout drawings while adhering to company standards
  • Seeks ways to infuse quality and labor savings into overall layout efforts
  • Communicates ideas for continuous improvement in standards and workflows
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years field construction experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Experience with team collaboration
  • Proficient in reading and understanding all forms of construction documents
  • Ability to interpret 2D plans and provide input to a 3D model
  • Skill with software such as BIM360, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel and Outlook, Navisworks, Revit, and file sharing platforms
  • Strong problem‑solving ability and sense of urgency
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Commitment to continued learning and development
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast‑paced environment

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to perform the essential job functions in a variety of work environments, including office and/or active job site settings, remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, move as needed, operate standard office equipment and technology, communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through electronic means, occasionally position self to access materials, move or transport work‑related materials or equipment, tolerate moderate noise levels typical of office or construction environments, travel to various work locations as required, work indoors and/or outdoors in varying environmental conditions, maintain regular and reliable attendance consistent with company policy and operational needs.

Additional Requirements

Pre‑employment drug screen required. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out‑of‑area and overnight travel expected.
