Landscape Irrigation Install Crew Leader


Job Summary

EMI is seeking an experienced and motivated Landscape Irrigation Installation Crew Leader to oversee and participate in the installation of irrigation systems for residential, commercial, and municipal landscape projects. This position is responsible for leading irrigation installation crews, coordinating daily field activities, ensuring quality workmanship, maintaining safety standards, and delivering projects efficiently and on schedule.

The Irrigation Installation Crew Leader works closely with Superintendents, clients, and fellow field personnel to ensure successful project completion. This role requires strong technical knowledge of irrigation systems, effective leadership skills, and the ability to troubleshoot issues in the field while maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is committed to excellence, safety, teamwork, and water-efficient irrigation practices.


Key Responsibilities


Crew Leadership & Project Execution

  • Lead and supervise irrigation installation crew members on assigned projects.
  • Delegate tasks and monitor crew productivity to ensure projects stay on schedule.
  • Train and mentor crew members on installation techniques, safety procedures, and company standards.
  • Coordinate daily activities with Superintendents, Foremen, and other field teams.

Irrigation Installation

  • Read and interpret irrigation plans, blueprints, specifications, and site layouts.
  • Install irrigation systems including:
    • Mainlines
    • Lateral lines
    • Valves
    • Sprinkler heads
    • Drip irrigation systems
    • Controllers
    • Backflow prevention devices
  • Perform trenching, pipe installation, wiring, and system assembly.
  • Ensure all installations are completed according to project specifications and industry standards.

System Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Test irrigation systems for proper coverage, pressure, efficiency, and performance.
  • Identify and repair leaks, wiring issues, valve malfunctions, and controller problems.
  • Program irrigation controllers and smart irrigation systems.
  • Troubleshoot existing systems and recommend corrective actions.

Quality & Compliance

  • Conduct quality inspections throughout installation activities.
  • Ensure projects meet company quality standards and client expectations.
  • Verify compliance with local regulations, water management requirements, and irrigation industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate installation records and daily production reports.

Equipment & Safety

  • Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain irrigation tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe working conditions.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.

Client Communication

  • Interact professionally with clients, inspectors, and subcontractors when needed.
  • Address jobsite concerns and communicate project updates appropriately.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of irrigation installation experience required.
  • Previous crew leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation systems and components, including products from Hunter, Rain Bird, Toro, and similar manufacturers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, irrigation plans, and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of irrigation controller programming and wiring.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to operate construction and landscape equipment safely.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Irrigation certification is a plus.


Preferred Certifications

  • Irrigation Association Certification (CIT, CLIA, CID or equivalent)
  • Backflow Certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • First Aid / CPR Certification


Work Environment

  • Regularly works on active construction and landscape project sites.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, humidity, and direct sunlight.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, moving equipment, and construction-related hazards.
  • Requires work on uneven terrain and active job sites.
  • May require early mornings, overtime, and occasional weekend work based on project schedules.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and dig for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and irrigation equipment safely.
  • Ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Sufficient visual and hearing ability to safely perform job duties.
