JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering high-quality radiation therapy treatments as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. This role ensures the safe and accurate administration of treatment plans, including patient preparation, simulation procedures, dose calculations, and verification of treatment parameters.
The Radiation Therapist works collaboratively with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional patient-centered care. All responsibilities are performed in accordance with hospital policies, federal and state regulations, and professional practice standards. Care is provided to adult and geriatric patient populations.
  • Thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, and current radiation therapy techniques.

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS/SOFTWARE:
A radiation therapist should have a complete understanding of the therapy equipment which includes but is not limited to:
  • The VARIAN linear accelerator and patient protection devices
  • Hardware and software for all patient information systems (PACS, EPIC, ARIA, etc)
  • CT Simulation

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administering the prescribed radiation therapy sessions on a daily basis
  • Maintaining daily records of treatment, inclusive of daily dosages and calculations and other necessary treatment records
  • Performing simulations, acquiring treatment parameters
  • Maintaining patient schedules for in-patients and out-patients by communicating frequently with families and hospital personnel to maintain schedule coordination and accommodate patients as best as possible
  • Monitoring patient condition and progress on a daily basis for conditions/changes that should be reported to the oncologist (i.e. patient weight, skin condition, reactions of any sort, etc.).
  • Assisting the radiation oncologist in performance of any duties deemed appropriate
  • Assisting the Physicist for Radiation Oncology with maintaining appropriate equipment documentation and department policy to ensure compliance with all ODH requirements.
  • Communicates appropriately with Radiation Oncology Nurse and Medical Oncology/Radiation Oncology Physician and staff.
  • Promotion at all times of measures that ensure patient, employee, physician, and organizational confidentiality
  • Adherence to all hospital policies and the promotion of a positive attitude toward the Organization
  • Performs ancillary/support functions whenever time allows and need arises
  • Participates in staff meetings, educational programs, committees, QA/QC activities, and mandatory in-services
  • Assists with the training of students
  • Demonstrates initiative in personal/professional development
  • Presents a professional image
  • Assists with cost controls through the judicious use of human and material resources

Requirements Include
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an approved Radiation Therapy Training Program
  • Individual must possess and maintain a current license from the ARRT specific to Radiation Therapy - ARRT (T)
  • Individual must possess and maintain a valid Radiation Therapist license from the Ohio Department of Health.
  • Individual should have a basic understanding of computer operations and be familiar with all aspects of Radiation Oncology
  • Six to twelve months of radiation therapy experience is preferred, with specific training in simulation and planning
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS) certification required.
