Job description

We are seeking a professional and dependable (unarmed) Security Officer to support a busy downtown healthcare environment. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff by monitoring facility activity, responding to safety concerns, assisting during emergencies, and enforcing organizational policies and procedures. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced healthcare setting while providing excellent customer service to diverse populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor entrances, exits, waiting areas, and common spaces to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Provide a visible security presence and respond promptly to safety concerns or disturbances.
  • Greet and assist patients and visitors in a professional, respectful, and customer-service-oriented manner.
  • De-escalate disruptive, aggressive, or potentially unsafe situations using crisis intervention and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Enforce organizational policies, visitor procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including medical, behavioral health crises, fire alarms, and evacuation situations.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, leadership, law enforcement, and emergency responders when necessary.
  • Assist with monitoring patient flow and maintaining order in high-traffic lobby and waiting room areas.
  • Support staff during difficult interactions or situations involving distressed patients or visitors.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational privacy standards.
  • Monitor security cameras.
  • Participate in required training, drills, and safety meetings.
  • Maintain professionalism and composure while working with diverse and vulnerable populations in a downtown community healthcare setting.
  • HS diploma/GED required.
  • Prior experience in security or similar role preferred.
  • Ability to stay calm and think clearly in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance.
