Course Description: This course explores the relationship between visual design and the field of information visualization. It presents design strategies of how information can be structured and visualized to create effective communications and to stimulate viewer attention and engagement.
Students will practice information design by exploring the implications of cognitive principles, communication theories, design thinking and aesthetic principles, semiotic systems in order to develop skills to analyze and design effective information visualization and communication.
Responsibilities:
Teaching: Delivering engaging and informative lectures to students enrolled in Information Design. Office Hours: Providing regular office hours to offer academic support, guidance, and clarification to students. Grading: Assessing and grading assignments, projects, and examinations in a timely manner. Grade Submission: Submitting final grades in accordance with university policies and deadlines. Curriculum Development: Participating in the development and enhancement of curriculum content, ensuring alignment with industry standards and emerging trends. Course Coordination: Collaborating with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and integrated learning experience for students. Student Interaction: Engaging with students to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, addressing inquiries and concerns. Professional Development: Staying informed about advancements in visual communications design and information design through continuous learning and professional development.

The Department of Design offers three undergraduate majors (BSD Industrial Design, BSD Interior Design, and BSD Visual Communication Design), a Design Thinking minor, and two tracks of graduate study (MFA Design Research & Development, MFA Digital Animation & Interactive Media). Our undergraduate program features a year of Design Foundations followed by competitive major acceptance for small cohorts of 18-20 students, and an emphasis on research and cross-major collaboration.
