We're hiring Construction Inspectors | Material Testing Technicians - all exp levels!

CTL Engineering (www.ctleng.com) is an award winning, full service consulting engineering firm with (16) locations across OH, IN, WV, KY, VA, NC, and SC with a rich history over our (99) years in business. We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting and installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry.


We are looking for all experience levels of Construction Inspectors | Material Testing Technicians who will play a key role in our Building Construction Management/Quality Assurance division. Ongoing mentoring and training will be provided, based on your experience level, with opportunities for increasing responsibility if that is your career trajectory and interest.

  • High School and Tech/Trade School grads/Associate degrees with a genuine interest in vertical construction are encouraged to apply! Prior experience/exposure to vertical construction is a strong plus but not required.

Highlights:

  • Project sites are typically within a (2) hour radius of Columbus.
    • Columbus is the center point of the project range/territory.
  • A company truck can be provided or you can use your personal vehicle and receive a reimbursement.
  • The typical schedule is Monday-Friday - day shift primarily (@7am-5pm).
    • If bad weather affects the timeline, some Saturdays may be needed to meet our clients project schedules.
    • Night time work may occur occasionally but we strive to give as much advance notice of possible so you can plan accordingly.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs construction Construction Inspector/Materials Testing services primarily involving concrete testing, rebar inspection, and other building materials for vertical construction projects (buildings) for municipal and private sector clients.
  • Responsible for testing, inspecting, and reporting on specific aspects of construction works in progress, such as concrete pours, rebar placement, and soils placement as examples.
  • May be responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials.
  • Performs computations with formulas, plots data, and draws simple curves and graphs.
  • Assists Engineers in field during soil and materials investigations.
  • Ensures that job site tests/observations, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications are performed in accordance with the standard test/observation methods, project specifications and other contract documents.
  • May perform lab testing and observation of soils, concrete, and asphalt.
  • Performs inspections for construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for vertical construction work (buildings/facilities).
  • Prepares and maintains project records and reports.
  • Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer of non-conforming work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of materials and lab testing - standard testing and observation methods - is a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction or engineering services is a strong plus.
  • Ability to perform quality control initiatives.
  • Ability to perform testing and lab reporting.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform engineering and construction field-testing.
  • Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather.
  • Ability to work and provide status updates independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School, Technical School, or Community College graduate.
  • Preferred: Associate Degree with 2 years of additional related work experience or Bachelor's Degree or Certification in related field.

Certifications:

  • ACI Grade I Concrete Testing Technician (preferred but not required)

Physical Requirements:

  • Primary work location is in the field and will require candidate to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
