Job description

Role Summary:
The Site EH&S Specialist - Data Center Low-Voltage will serve as the on-site safety representative for low-voltage cabling and data center infrastructure crews working inside a client-controlled data center environment. This role is responsible for maintaining safe work conditions, supporting client EHS requirements, verifying pre-task planning, controlling high-risk work, conducting field inspections, supporting incident response, and ensuring EH&S records are complete and audit ready.
This is a field-based EH&S role, not an administrative safety role. The specialist is expected to be present in the work areas, support crews during active shifts, exercise stop-work authority when needed, and coordinate safety matters with the client site contact and internal leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the named on-site EH&S representative for low-voltage / structured cabling crews at the data center site.
  • Lead or verify daily pre-task briefings, job hazard analyses, and safety planning before work begins.
  • Identify and control hazards related to energized environments, overhead work, elevated work, dropped objects, floor openings, confined or restricted spaces, heat, noise, manual handling, and cable-pull activities.
  • Own the permit-to-work interface, including company permits, client-form permits, client authorization requirements, and permit closeout verification.
  • Verify competency, precautions, equipment condition, and controls before high-risk work begins.
  • Maintain regular field presence during assigned shifts and conduct documented inspections, observations, coaching, and hazard reporting.
  • Stop work immediately where there is an imminent or serious risk to life, health, or the environment.
  • Remove workers from the work area when required due to training lapse, credential lapse, impairment, or refusal to follow safety controls.
  • Verify required training, site orientation, credentials, and badge readiness before workers enter or continue work on site.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, tailgate meetings, safety communications, and retraining triggers as required.
  • Act as first responder and scene controller for incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, or unsafe conditions.
  • Initiate incident notification and escalation steps within required timeframes.
  • Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and documentation required for incident review.
  • Align site emergency action plans with the client facility plan, including evacuation routes, assembly points, muster process, and emergency drills.
  • Maintain site EH&S documentation, including safety plans, permits, training records, inspections, safety meeting records, incident reports, first aid reports, and related audit documents.
  • Participate in client safety meetings, site audits, compliance checks, and worker engagement activities.
  • Promote a reporting culture where near misses, good catches, and safety concerns are raised early without retaliation.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of EH&S experience in construction, industrial, data center, telecom, low-voltage, or mission-critical environments.
  • Field-based safety experience, including inspections, safety training, incident response, and hazard control.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction and general industry requirements, including electrical safe work practices, lockout/control of hazardous energy, fall protection, confined space, hot work, PPE, and hazard communication.
  • Experience supporting or operating a permit-to-work process for high-risk activities.
  • Current First Aid / CPR / AED certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to hold a safety position under production pressure and stop or delay work when required.
  • Ability to pass client background screening and maintain client site access credentials.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write factual incident reports and inspection notes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Data center, mission-critical, telecommunications, structured cabling, or low-voltage construction experience.
  • CHST, ASP, STSC, CSP, or equivalent safety credential.
  • NFPA 70E training or electrical safety program experience.
  • Competent person experience in fall protection, confined space, silica, excavation, or related high-risk work.
  • MEWP / lift operator or supervisor training.
  • Experience with client-directed EHS management systems, owner prequalification platforms, permit systems, incident systems, or mobile inspection tools.
  • Bilingual capability, especially Spanish, is preferred where it matches the deployed workforce.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
This role is performed on active construction and operating data center sites. The position requires regular movement throughout the site, including work areas with elevated noise, heat, restricted access, energized equipment, elevated work, ladders, lifts, and PPE requirements. Shift coverage may include nights, weekends, extended cutover windows, and reachability for incident escalation.
