Job description

Join the YMCA of Central Ohio as a Water Fitness Instructor at our North Branch and help our community thrive through health and wellness. In this role, you'll lead fun, motivating, and safe aquatic fitness classes that support members of all ages and abilities in reaching their wellness goals. We're looking for motivating instructors who are passionate about fitness, skilled in creating inclusive and encouraging environments, and committed to providing a high-quality experience for every participant. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:

  1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  2. Designs, prepares, and delivers class routines as directed by the supervisor that meet all the necessary components and safe guidelines in accordance with current accepted practices of exercise physiology.
  3. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA
  4. Engages the members and supports them in achieving their goals related to healthy living
  5. Maintains valid national certification specific to the class format they are delivering at all times as well as a working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  6. Record accurate class attendance and maintain a minimum of 60% target attendance with continual growth.
  7. Instructs a minimum of 2 classes per week (8/month) including but not limited to at least one sub shift per quarter, and appropriately securing a substitute instructor for own classes when needed.
  8. Begins and ends class at the scheduled time.
  9. Where needed, sets up equipment for class, assists members in cleaning equipment before and after class.
  10. Maintains equipment and keeps the group exercise area clean.
  11. Participates in Community Outreach campaign and shares announcements as directed by supervisor
  12. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
