Job description

Position Purpose:
Lead and manage the testing, development, validation, and sign off of all major product programs; proliferation of existing products into specialty market applications; and cost reductions and resolution of field issues for mature products. This position is also responsible for working with Engineering to drive consistent documentation and standardizing and maintaining test procedures and practices.
Essential Functions:
  1. Test and Validation Implementation
  • Designs test fixtures and works with fabrication resources to oversee and confirm test fixtures are correct as built.
  • Oversees Lab Technicians to install and set up suspension systems and components for testing.
  • Works with Engineering representatives to confirm and implement test standards or test plans for suspension systems and components.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for all testing and validation activities.
  1. Test and Validation Oversight
  • Confirms and records proper test setup (by written record and photographs) and maintains the records of testing.
  • Manage records of test subject performance and durability information throughout the testing activity.
  1. Test Documentation
  • Write Test Reports using standardized forms, correctly documenting all the results of test activities.
  • Oversee Lab Technicians in the creation and maintenance of an archive of all Test Reports in a way that makes searching and finding past data easy and fast.
  1. Test Process Documentation
  • Collaborate directly with Engineering to create and maintain records of test processes for current and new tests that may be developed.
  • Innovate and implement new ways to improve test processes to reduce time or cost, or improve accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility or correlation of testing activities.
  1. Test Process Maintenance
  • Collaborate with outside vendors to organize and control calibration of test instrumentation.
  • Create and maintain records of instrumentation calibration and status.
  1. Virtual Analysis, FEA etc.
  • Conduct predictive analysis to assist in the design and development process.

  • Develops and maintains an effective team through training, development, and performance management.
  • Works in partnership with site EHS to ensure validation systems comply with environmental and safety regulatory standards.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by ensuring that Department personnel follow site EHS policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal customers, and other stakeholders.

Education and Training
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Agricultural, Aeronautical, or related Engineering field required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years' experience as a test engineer working with hydraulic, pneumatic and electronically controlled test equipment.
  • 5+ years' experience setting up and operating electronic data acquisition equipment.
  • 3+ years' experience in the supervision of engineers and engineering support personnel.
  • Skilled with 3D CAD software.
  • Skilled at reading technical drawings (e.g. to ASME Y14.5-2009).
  • Skilled with set-up and operation of hydraulically-actuated testing equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the structural design of vehicle chassis systems and components, including fatigue analysis and life prediction techniques.
  • Must have developed problem solving skills (formally, 8D or other problem-solving experience).

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position constantly.
  • Frequent movement of hands, wrists, or fingers such as typing, filing, and writing.
  • Occasionally need to move about inside office and plant designated area.
