Job description

Summary

Responsible for the safe and timely delivery and retrieval of office products to S.P. Richards customers during scheduled day routes. This position requires a valid Class A CDL with HAZMAT endorsement and requires adherence to DOT, FMCSA, hazardous materials handling, and company safety standards while providing excellent customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform DOT-mandated pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle.
  • Safely drive and deliver products on established day routes, meeting scheduled delivery and pickup times.
  • Verify orders, maintain accurate Proof of Delivery (POD), and accurately maintain Hours-of-Service records using the company's Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and other mobile technology.
  • Safely transport, secure, document, and deliver hazardous materials in compliance with DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR), company policies, and customer requirements.
  • Load/unload products with pallet jacks, dollies, or by hand.
  • Retrieve returns and complete paperwork accurately.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform light maintenance.
  • Deliver professional, courteous service and uphold company safety standards.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Valid Class A CDL with active HAZMAT endorsement required.
  • Must maintain all required HAZMAT eligibility, including TSA security threat assessment requirements, endorsement renewal, and any company-required hazardous materials training.
  • Minimum one (1) year of verifiable Class A CDL commercial driving experience within the past three (3) years.
  • MVR: No more than 2 violations in the last 3 years.
  • No DUI/DWI in the last 5 years.
  • No disqualifying serious traffic violations as defined by FMCSA or company insurance requirements.
  • Must reside within 60 miles of the distribution center.
  • Must communicate in English (read, write, and speak) per FMCSA requirements.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. and move heavier loads (1,000+ lbs.) with equipment.
  • Professionalism and reliable reporting required.
  • Demonstrated stable work history preferred.
Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred. Prior CDL Class A delivery experience and familiarity with HAZMAT documentation, ELDs, tablets, Roadnet, or similar routing systems preferred.

Math Ability:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Work Environment

Route schedule with frequent customer interaction and independent work required. Work is performed in loud environments with exposure to warehouse, roadway, dock, and customer delivery conditions. Role may include handling or transporting HAZMAT-regulated materials in accordance with applicable safety requirements.

Physical Demands

Driver unloads product at customer locations using pallet jacks, dollies, and manual handling as required. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. and move heavier loads using appropriate equipment while following safe work practices.
