Job description

Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Data Center Tech (L1's) in New Albany, OH. The Data Center Technician (L1) provides foundational support for both Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure within a mission-critical environment. This role is responsible for assisting with the installation, testing, and maintenance of structured cabling systems and physical hardware to ensure seamless network connectivity.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $21 to $25 Per Hour BOE

Responsibilities:

  • Support the installation, routing, and securing of fiber optic and copper cabling for OSP and ISP projects.
  • Assist with fiber terminations, labeling, and the build-out of telecommunication rooms and cabinets.
  • Perform Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) for hardware, including device labeling and power connectivity.
  • Support senior technicians in fiber splicing operations and high-count cable deployments.
  • Conduct basic testing and troubleshooting of cabling infrastructure to identify signal loss or damage.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of cable installations and asset management logs.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of raised floors, cable trays, and rack exterior surfaces.
  • Follow site-specific security protocols and safety standards to maintain a secure operating environment.
  • Assist with equipment receiving, inventory auditing, and hardware staging as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • 0-1 year of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, or a data center environment.
  • Foundational understanding of fiber optic and copper cabling standards (ISP/OSP).
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools and cable testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow basic network diagrams, floor plans, and cable schedules.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow technical instructions accurately.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights, off ladders, and within confined or restricted spaces.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach for prolonged periods during a shift.
  • Ability to distinguish different colors for cable identification and read small print.
  • Comfortable working in varying environments, including temperature-controlled data centers and outdoor sites.

Pay Transparency:

The anticipated pay range for this position is $21 to $25 per hour, based on relevant factors such as experience, skills, education, internal equity, and geographic location. Final compensation will be determined during the interview process by the hiring authority.
