Position Overview:
Client is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Columbus office and support the successful delivery of heavy civil construction projects. This role will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Estimators, and subcontractors to assist with project coordination, documentation, scheduling, procurement, and cost tracking.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to build a long-term career in heavy civil construction. This position offers a clear path for advancement into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles.
Key Responsibilities
Support Project Managers with day-to-day project administration and coordination
Prepare, track, and maintain RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project correspondence
Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Maintain drawing logs, document control systems, and revision tracking
Assist with procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services
Coordinate material deliveries and communicate project needs with field personnel
Track project quantities, production rates, and progress updates
Assist with project scheduling and milestone tracking
Support permit applications, utility notifications (OUPS), and inspection coordination
Prepare meeting agendas, attend project meetings, and distribute meeting minutes
Assist with monthly cost reporting, forecasting, and pay application preparation
Maintain accurate As-Built drawings and closeout documentation
Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, owners, and subcontractors to resolve project issues
Ensure project records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with company standards
Promote and support company safety initiatives and compliance requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred
0-3 years of construction experience; internships or co-op experience in heavy civil construction are highly valued
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contracts
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Bluebeam
Experience with Procore, Primavera P6, HeavyJob, HeavyBid, HCSS, AutoCAD, or similar construction software is a plus
Understanding of site development, earthwork, utilities, grading, and road construction is preferred
Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to learn.
