Job description

Objectives To assist with the inventorying, planning, application, and maintenance of the Delaware SWCD's natural resource program. Job Standards High school diploma or equivalent. Employee must have valid Ohio driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Must meet and maintain qualifications for driving on District business at all times, including insurability. Essential Functions Conducts inspections of District projects including those under Ohio Revised Code 6131 and 6137, as well as agricultural conservation practices. Based on inspections, identify needed work on projects.

Perform any work as directed by supervisor. Reports findings of suspected pollution of drainage channels to the District Administrator in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code. Maintains equipment in good working order.

Maintains the inventory of related supplies properly. Maintains records of completed work. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget request, monthly reports, and annual reports.

Understands topography, soil types, aerial photography, geography, vegetation, and other features. Familiarity with engineering instruments and equipment as part of a field team to survey for proposed conservation practices using US Department of Agriculture and Ohio Department of Transportation specifications. Possesses the ability to read and understand engineering schematics.

Maintains cooperative working relationships with all agencies and land users. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Attends various training sessions, teleconferences, webinars and workshops.

Performs typing, word processing, and related computer operations. Works additional hours outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required. Observes all District policies and procedures.

Prioritizes work and practices effective time management resulting in good quality and quantity of work. Sets and meets deadlines, effectively manages multiple job duties and asks for assistance when needed. Provides accurate, timely and professional assistance to partners, landowners and general public in a manner that heightens the District's credibility and visibility.

Promotes a positive, cooperative, and non-discriminatory atmosphere that supports a safe and productive working environment. Performs any related essential functions as required. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Equipment: Efficiently operates a wide variety of power tools, hand tools, Agri-chemical application equipment, UTV's, dump trucks, loaders, excavators, mowers, tractors, seeders along with a variety of office equipment including a computer and related software, copier, camera, telephone, calculator, scanner, projector, and other equipment necessary to perform duties. CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE: Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of natural resource conservation and management with an understanding of rural and urban surface and subsurface drainage design. Communicates professionally and effectively with internal and external customers, both orally and in writing Proficiency in grammar, writing, spelling, punctuation and mathematical skills Demonstrates exceptional public relations and project management skills Delivers excellent customer service, externally and internally Ability to work effectively with clients who may be upset, distraught, irate, or emotionally or mentally or otherwise unable to function with reasonable range of constructive behaviors Organizes and prioritizes work assignments, multi-task with accurate focus and refocus in a fast paced environment Efficiently operates computer programs such as, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and agency specific programs Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow safety policies, procedures and practices Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow federal, state, local, and agency policies and procedures, laws and regulations The following may be required as determined by the District Administrator: State of Ohio commercial pesticide applicator license commercial driver's license with class A endorsement willingness to become familiar with the use of Auto CAD, ArcGIS, and related engineering software RESPONSIBILITY: Daily supervision is provided by the Resource Conservationists 2 and 3 at the direction of the Administrator and Deputy Administrator on behalf of the Delaware SWCD Board of Supervisors.

PHYSICAL EFFORT and WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works both inside and outside and is exposed to temperatures below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour, over uneven terrain, with exposure to various hazardous insects, plants, and animals. Some physical exertion such as prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects weighing up to 100 pounds is also involved. Individual is exposed to noise, vibration, oil, chemicals, and physical hazards.

Individual may be exposed to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS: Individual has contact with the Board of Supervisors, co-workers, employees in county government, contractors, and the general public. Individual may communicate with the public.
