Job description

Nationwide Children's Hospital, consistently ranked among the nation's leading pediatric hospitals, seeks a dynamic and visionary Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO) to join its executive leadership team. The CMCO will play a critical role in advancing the hospital’s mission to lead the transformation of child health and achieve best outcomes by leading enterprise-wide strategies for brand, reputation, growth, digital engagement, consumer experience and thought leadership. The executive will help shape how patients, families, referring providers, researchers, donors, employees, physicians and communities experience and engage with Nationwide Children’s.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CMCO serves as the senior executive responsible for shaping and elevating Nationwide Children’s national profile while driving strategic growth initiatives across one of the nation’s premier pediatric academic medical centers. This leader will operate at the intersection of strategy, influence, innovation and experience, helping define the future trajectory of the organization and strengthening its position as a national leader in pediatric healthcare, research and advocacy. This role offers the opportunity to shape the voice, growth, reputation and consumer experience of one of the nation’s most respected pediatric healthcare organizations.

The CMCO will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team and Board of Directors on reputation management, stakeholder engagement and organizational positioning. Key responsibilities include leading enterprise brand strategy, thought leadership initiatives, media relations, executive communications, public affairs, digital strategy, consumer engagement, data and market insights, creative and multimedia services, and precision marketing efforts designed to support organizational growth, strengthen reputation and expand pediatric market share. The CMCO will also oversee Nationwide Children's Digital Front Door strategy, a key enterprise growth initiative focused on advancing digital access, personalization, omnichannel engagement and consumer‑centered experiences that improve access, navigation and outcomes for patients and families.

In partnership with clinical, operational and administrative leaders, the CMCO will align the organization’s brand promise with patient and customer experience while developing innovative approaches to consumer insights, analytics and performance measurement. This leader will foster a unified "One Brand" strategy that supports regional and national growth, strengthens employee engagement and reinforces Nationwide Children’s commitment to family‑centered care. The CMCO will also partner closely with leaders across the Abigail Wexner Research Institute to elevate the visibility of groundbreaking research, clinical innovation and academic excellence, strengthening Nationwide Children’s national reputation as a leading pediatric academic medical center. In addition, this leader will work alongside the Kids Mental Health Foundation, a national movement founded by Nationwide Children’s, focused on advancing awareness, advocacy, education, strategic partnerships and engagement efforts to improve children’s mental health and well‑being nationwide. The CMCO also oversees retail gift shop operations as an extension of the organization’s brand and family experience.

The ideal candidate will possess a distinguished record of executive leadership in healthcare, academic medicine, or another complex consumer‑focused environment.

Candidates should demonstrate success leading enterprise marketing, communications, digital transformation, consumer engagement and growth initiatives while serving as a strategic advisor to senior executives and governing boards.

The successful candidate will bring exceptional leadership presence, strategic vision, data‑driven decision‑making and a collaborative style that inspires high‑performing teams and enterprise‑wide partnerships.
