Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking an Outbound Senior Logistics Manager to own Outbound Logistics, everything that happens to a shipment from the moment an order leaves our facility until it's confirmed delivered, or comes back. This position plays a key role in supporting Pharmacy Supply Chain, reporting to the Senior Director, Pharmacy Supply Chain, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, operational excellence, and compliance standards. This is a deliberately specialized, single-lane role, not a generalist logistics catch-all: Inbound Logistics remains part of Supply Chain's separate scope, and Internal Logistics sits with the Operations function. This role picks up the moment Operations completes filling an order and the package heads out the door, and requires someone who treats the UPS relationship as a strategic partnership, treats a return-to-sender spike as a data problem worth solving, and keeps compliant, temperature-sensitive product moving without compromise.
Key Responsibilities
Role Scope
  • This role owns: Outbound Logistics (everything from the moment an order leaves the facility until it's delivered or returned), the UPS relationship, carrier performance and RTS/returns root-cause analysis, weather- and environmental-driven shipment decisions, compliant cold-chain outbound packaging and documentation, and RFID tracking integration with UPS for outbound visibility.

Outbound Carrier & UPS Management
  • UPS Account Ownership: serve as Gifthealth's dedicated point of contact with UPS, building a relationship deep enough to escalate fast, negotiate well, and get ahead of service issues before they hit patients.
  • Carrier Performance & Cost Management: own UPS service-level scorecards, rate and surcharge review, claims resolution, and contract negotiation touchpoints.

Returns, RTS & Weather Analytics
  • Returns & RTS Root-Cause Analysis: investigate why product is coming back - undeliverable addresses, missed delivery windows, weather and storm disruption, forecast/demand mismatches - and build the reporting to explain it, not just react to it.
  • Weather & Forecast-Driven Planning: track storm systems and regional disruption patterns across the UPS network, and proactively adjust shipping cadence, packaging, or communication to reduce RTS volume before it happens.

Compliant, Cold-Chain Outbound Shipping
  • Cold-chain and temperature-sensitive handling: maintain hands-on knowledge of packaging standards, validation protocols, and monitoring for outbound medications requiring controlled temperature ranges (2-8°C refrigerated, frozen, or ambient-sensitive).
  • Outbound regulatory awareness: maintain working familiarity with DEA controlled-substance shipping rules and HIPAA requirements governing shipment documentation, plus understanding of URAC and/or ACHC standards as they apply to outbound distribution.
  • Dispensing and shipping system fluency: work comfortably with pharmacy dispensing and shipping platforms (e.g., BestRx, Power Line, or comparable systems) and adapt to Gifthealth's internal stack.

Warehouse Outbound Flow & RFID Tracking
  • Warehouse Logistics Support & RFID Tracking: own the recently installed RFID communication integration with UPS for enhanced shipment tracking and visibility, and partner closely with Operations on outbound flow at the Columbus and Mesa facilities - collaborating to streamline pick, pack, and ship performance rather than owning or running it directly.

Leadership & Organizational Impact
  • Lead and develop: a team responsible for outbound logistics performance and returns handling.
  • Partner cross-functionally: with Operations on internal handoffs and weather-driven processing decisions, with Quality on RTS standards and carrier handling requirements, and with Patient Experience and Supply Chain leadership to translate RTS trends into operational fixes.
  • Respect functional boundaries: by coordinating clean handoffs with the Supply Chain colleagues who own Inbound Logistics and the Operations team building out Internal Logistics.
  • Represent Gifthealth: in regular business reviews with UPS, keeping the relationship strong enough that Gifthealth gets priority attention when things go sideways.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in supply chain, operations management, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Licensure/Certification: APICS/CSCP, Lean, or Six Sigma credentials are a plus but not required if the experience speaks for itself.
  • Experience: 5-8+ years in logistics, transportation, or carrier management with an outbound/distribution focus, including 2+ years leading a team.
  • Skills:
    • Direct experience managing a carrier relationship (UPS strongly preferred) as the primary or dedicated account contact, including service reviews and contract/rate conversations.
    • Track record analyzing returns, delivery exceptions, or RTS data and turning it into a forecasting or prevention program; healthcare, pharmacy, or cold-chain shipping experience is a strong plus.
    • Experience with cold-chain or temperature-controlled outbound shipping, including packaging validation and monitoring.
    • Familiarity with DEA, HIPAA, or URAC/ACHC requirements as they apply to outbound pharmacy shipments.
    • Comfortable with data: builds or reads dashboards/reports on delivery performance, RTS rates, and weather-driven disruption trends without waiting on someone else to hand them the analysis.
    • Experience with WMS/TMS platforms and ERP systems (e.g., Acumatica) a plus.
    • A demonstrated pattern of proposing non-obvious solutions; this role calls for someone who thinks outside the box, not someone who runs the standard playbook well.
Work Environment
  • Location: Remote/Hybrid, with travel between sites and to UPS facilities as needed.
  • Schedule: Full-time; standard business hours.
  • May require availability outside standard hours to support weather-driven shipment decisions, carrier escalations, or RTS spikes.
  • Regular meetings with Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, and Patient Experience leadership, plus periodic business reviews with UPS.
Key Essential Functions
  • Must be able to travel between sites (including the Columbus and Mesa facilities) and to UPS facilities as needed
  • Must be able to operate comfortably in a distribution center/warehouse environment when partnering with Operations on outbound flow.
  • Must be able to respond promptly to time-sensitive weather events, carrier disruptions, or RTS spikes affecting patient shipments.
  • Must be able to work remote/hybrid, with reliable connectivity to support carrier coordination, dashboards, and cross-functional partnership.
