DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the Environmental Health Director, or a Program Manager, the Environmental Health Specialist promotes individual and population public health by providing the essential services of public health within a variety of settings. Candidates must be a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Registered Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training or Registered Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training eligible.
Duties- Monitors environmental and health status to identify and solve community environmental public health problems
- Diagnose and investigate environmental public health problems and health hazards in the community. Collects samples, conducts field tests, collects and analyzes environmental public health data; interprets results and makes recommendations for corrective action(s).
- Collaborates in Fairfield County Health Department's community health assessment and health improvement planning and intervention activities as needed.
- Determine compliance with and enforce environmental health laws and rules for environmental programs
- Mobilizes community partnerships and actions to identify and solve environmental health problems. Coordinates environmental public health activities and enforcement with professionals and investigators from other agencies and jurisdictions
- Enforce laws and regulations that protect environmental public health and ensure safety.
- Conducts routine/required inspections and/or audits to ensure compliance of existing local and state public health and environmental codes, regulations and policies.
- Collects water samples for laboratory analysis to ensure compliance of existing local and state public health and environmental codes, regulations and policies.
- Investigates complaints regarding environmental health problems and environmental health hazards and initiates enforcement or corrective actions as required.
- Participates in response teams to prevent, minimize, and contain adverse health events and conditions resulting from communicable diseases; food-, water-, and vector-borne outbreaks; chronic diseases; environmental hazards; injuries; and health disparities.
- Write detailed inspection reports and develop policies and plans that support individual and community environmental public health efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned consistent with job classification.
Qualifications- A Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Registered Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training or Registered Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training eligible.
- Valid Ohio Driver's License
