Job description

Bus Driver

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extra curricular program.

A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent. At least 21 years of age with a minimum of two years of driving experience. Meets all the physical, mental and moral requirements established by federal rule, state laws and Chapter 3301-83 of Ohio Administrative Code. Being physically qualified (Rule 3301-83-07 of Ohio Administrative Code). Ohio School Bus Driver's license, Class B-SP Endorsement Commercial Driver's License. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact in a professional manner. Appropriately dressed, neat and clean appearance. Physical capability of appropriately lifting and managing preschool and students with special needs when necessary. All drivers once employed are subject to the Federal Commercial Driver License Drug and Alcohol laws, including random, reasonable suspicion and post accident testing. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Obeys all traffic laws. Copes with stressful situations. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses. Maintains discipline and order with students while on the bus and at their bus stops. Uses department discipline ladder to report discipline issues to proper authority. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority. Keeps assigned bus clean and fueled. Strives to maintain assigned schedule. Performs complete daily pre and post trip inspections of assigned vehicle(s) including completion of appropriate documentation. Transports students while driving in a safe manner at all times. Notifies the Coordinator of Transportation in case of mechanical failure, tardiness, or absenteeism by the designated time. Discharges students only at authorized stops. Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips. Transports only authorized students, coaches, teachers and chaperones. Reports all accidents as soon as practical and completes required reports. Ensures that regulations for student bus responsibilities are followed. Develops and maintains accurate LEFT/RIGHT and/or route sheets that are clear for sub use. Conducts appropriate school bus evacuation and safety training. Attends all mandatory departmental in-service meetings. Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA]. Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines [OSHA]. Ensures the safety of student. Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships. Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgement. Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
