Job description

Job Title: Cashier 

Department: Schokko Café  

Reports To: Sous Chef   

FLSA Status: non-exempt (full-time, part-time) 

Work schedule: Variable including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Job Summary: The Columbus Museum of Art is seeking Cashiers to join our museum Café team. This role combines barista-style beverage preparation, food service, and guest-facing hospitality in a dynamic museum environment. Cashiers take orders, prepare specialty coffee drinks, run food, bus tables, and help maintain a clean and welcoming café space for museum visitors. This position also supports café service in an outdoor patio seating area during warmer months.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner and answer questions regarding food and beverage items.
  • Prepare espresso and specialty beverages, coffee, and tea following café standards.
  • Run food orders to guests and bus tables throughout service.
  • Process transactions accurately and balancing cash drawers at the end of shifts.
  • Report food, beverage, or supply needs to the kitchen in a timely manner.
  • Balance daily cash register receipts and make daily cash drop.
  • Responsible for the orderliness, cleanliness, and sanitation of Café food prep work areas.
  • Stock all needed products for daily operation, such as paper products, cutlery, condiments, and beverages.  
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of café service areas, beverage stations and dining areas.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Professional serving experience in restaurants and/or catering. 
  • Appreciation for and understanding of the Museum’s mission and purpose
  • Strong commitment to quality and guest experience
  • Exhibit professionalism in attire, work habits, and communication

 

Uniform Requirements: This position does require maintaining a dress code (including non-slip shoes) and a clean, professional personal appearance.

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear.  Must be able to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift 10 to 25 lbs.   Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

 

Work Environment: This position works in a busy café environment with both indoor service areas and an outdoor patio seating area that is utilized during warmer months. Staff regularly handle kitchen tools and equipment including knives, dishes, and cookware, some of which may be hot. Noise levels in the work environment range from quiet to moderate.
