Job description

As part of the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Division of Soil & Water Conservation, you will play a vital role in protecting Ohio's land and water resources while working directly, with communities, farmers, and conservation partners.

In this position you will:

  • Lead efforts to address agricultural pollution by investigating complaints, conducting site visits, and coordinating enforcement actions that protect Ohio's waterways.
  • Partner with Soil & Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) to provide technical expertise on nutrient management, conservation practices, and best management strategies.
  • Assist local staff with developing and reviewing nutrient management plans and conservation practices that promote long-term sustainability.
  • Provide hands-on support to farmers and landowners, offering one-on-one guidance and group consultations to improve soil health, water quality, and conservations outcomes.
  • Monitor post-assistance activities and conduct periodic field inspections to ensure compliance with agricultural pollution abatement rules.
  • Prepare and maintain technical reports and enforcement correspondence that guide statement conservation efforts.
  • Support training and outreach by developing and delivering educational programs for agencies, organizations, and the public on pollution abatement rules and water quality issues.
  • Represent the division at conservation field days, community events, and professional meetings that promote sound nutrient management conservation practices.
  • Coordinate the agricultural pollution abatement cost-share program, including application reviews, project monitoring, fund tracking, and annual reporting.
  • Respond to inquiries via email and phone, ensuring stakeholders have the support they need to achieve conservation success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 years training or 4 years experience in natural resources specialty indicated under job duties within approved position description
  • Or undergraduate major core program & 2 years training or 2 years experience in natural resources specialty indicated under job duties within approved position
  • Or completion of graduate major core program & 1 year experience in natural resources specialty indicated under job duties within approved position description

Equivalent education, training and experience will be considered. Position requires the candidate to maintain a valid drivers license.
