Position Summary:
The Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) Army Instructor (AI) manages the unit's educational, administrative, and operational aspects in cooperation with the Senior Army Instructor (SAI). Operating under the mission philosophy "To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens," the AI is a certified host-school employee who facilitates leadership development, character education, citizenship, and life skills.
Essential Functions:

1. The AI is responsible for delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction utilizing the sequenced Army JROTC curriculum.
2. Instructors must prepare and execute clear, timely lesson plans utilizing the mandatory JROTC 4-phase learning strategy, which guides Cadets to inquire, gather, process, and apply information.
3. The AI must assess student achievement continuously, utilizing JROTC curriculum assessment tasks to verify, document, and report Cadet competencies.
4. The instructor must schedule instructional time according to school district guidelines, ensuring the completion of the required core contact hours for each Leadership Education and Training (LET) level.
5. The AI must actively integrate modern technology, educational software, and platforms such as the JROTC Learning Management System (LMS) and March2Success to help Cadets prepare for standardized tests, college entrance exams, and future careers.
6. A critical aspect of the AI's role is the meticulous management of federal military property and unit databases.
7. The AI serves as the primary or assistant Military Property Specialist. In this capacity, they requisition, store, issue, and account for all government-furnished property, including Cadet uniforms, demilitarized training weapons, robotics, and automation equipment.
8. The AI maintains precise records in the JROTC Unit Management System (JUMS) and the JROTC Command and Information Management System (JCIMS). This includes entering student enrollment, tracking uniform issue and return, and recording Cadet promotion and award data.
9. The AI assists the SAI in preparing and submitting recurring reports to the school administration and USACC, including the Opening Enrollment Report, Ethnic Data, and the Intentions of Graduates.
10. The JROTC program extends far beyond the traditional classroom. The AI plays a vital role in supervising and mentoring Cadets in competitive and community environments.
11. The AI organizes, supervises, and actively coaches JROTC co-curricular events and competitive teams outside of the normal academic day.
12. The AI is required to participate in and supervise Cadets during summer leadership camps (JCLCs), STEM camps, and other external training opportunities.
13. The AI facilitates Cadet-led community service learning projects, encouraging students to develop a sense of personal responsibility, patriotism, and respect for authority.
14. As a visible representative of both the school district and the United States Army, the AI must maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and safety.
15. The AI must maintain a safe and comfortable environment for students, ensuring strict adherence to school district and Cadet Command safety policies.
16. The AI must maintain an exemplary personal appearance and wear the prescribed Army uniform in accordance with Army and Cadet Command regulations. They must ensure Cadets strictly adhere to uniform wear, personal grooming, and conduct standards.
17. The AI must strictly enforce regulations prohibiting hazing, harassment, bullying, and fraternization.
18. Participate actively on a team and/or in a department, collaborating with school administrators and counselors to ensure the JROTC unit reflects a cross-section of the school's population.
19. Keep accurate and detailed records according to district, building, and U.S. Army Cadet Command (USACC) rules, including submitting recurring reports such as Cadet Enrollment, Ethnic Data, and Intentions of Graduates.
20. Prepare adequately for substitute teachers.
21. Observe the adopted daily building schedule, including starting and ending times for teachers and students, and perform all assigned routine duties regularly rotated among other teachers in the school.
22. Attend all staff meetings, unless excused.
23. Ensure Cadets adhere to uniform wear, personal appearance, and conduct standards as prescribed by Cadet Command Regulation 145-2, and enforce the prohibition of hazing, harassment, and fraternization.
24. Report to parents, in writing and at conferences, at the intervals established by the district and/or building.
25. Communicate with parents on an ongoing basis, in a positive manner.
26. Work cooperatively with peers, administrators, and support staff.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist with the selection of supplementary teaching materials to enhance the core curriculum content.
2. Work with student teachers if needed.
3. Maintain an appropriate personal appearance and wear the prescribed Army uniform in accordance with regulations.
4. Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district and the U.S. Army.
5. Maintain confidentiality of non-public information.
6. Support district initiatives and strategic goals as assigned.
7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, the Superintendent, or their designee(s), provided they do not conflict with JROTC instruction, operation, and administration.

Qualifications:

1. Service Record: Must be a retired or honorably discharged Army Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) in the grade of E-6 through E-9, or a retired Warrant Officer, with at least 8 years of active military service. Alternatively, active participating members of the Selected Reserve who meet USACC eligibility criteria are eligible.
2. USACC Certification: Must possess a valid, active certification from the Commanding General, U.S. Army Cadet Command (USACC) to serve as a JROTC Instructor.
3. Education: An Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university is highly preferred.
4. Must successfully complete a Tier 1 background investigation and periodic re-verification every 5 years as required by the Department of Defense.
5. Must complete and sign the DD Form 3200, JROTC Instructor Prohibited Activities Acknowledgement form annually.
6. Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate, provided they comply with U.S. Army JROTC regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Comprehensive knowledge of military training, leadership development, and the Army JROTC curriculum.
2. Knowledge of a variety of instructional designs, methods, and materials that are developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate for high school students.
3. Knowledge of the characteristics of adolescents, and the desire and ability to work effectively with them.
4. Ability to work effectively with other adults in many different situations, including teams of teachers and conferences with parents.
5. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
6. Effective active listening skills.
7. Well-developed organizational and problem-solving skills.
8. Basic knowledge of computer technology, including third-party websites for administrative, budgetary, and curriculum delivery, or willingness to acquire and appropriately apply such knowledge.
9. Knowledge of supply management and inventory procedures for government property.

Equipment Operated:

1. Various office machines and instructional equipment, such as calculators, copiers, and laminating machines.
2. Computer/printer and multimedia presentation equipment.
3. Specific JROTC equipment including drill rifles, air rifles (if applicable), archery equipment, robotics, and Raider Challenge equipment.

Working Conditions:

1. Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue.
2. Must be available for education-related purposes and co-curricular JROTC activities outside the instructional day when requested to do so under reasonable terms.
3. Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach with hands and arms, stoop, crouch, and kneel.
4. Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items; for example, office supplies, up to 25 lbs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. Length of Employment: One-Year Limited Contract.
2. Salary: Based on the JROTC Standardized Instructor Pay Scale (JSIPS).
3. Fringe Benefits: Based on the current negotiated contract.
4. Must pass criminal background check and meet all state and Department of Defense employment requirements.
