    The Role and Why It's Important
    Our Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits Cashiers are at the heart of the customer experience, serving as the friendly, knowledgeable face at the point of purchase. In this role, you'll educate customers about our wine, spirits, and beer products, keep the department stocked and beautifully presented, and make sure every transaction is smooth and every customer leaves happy.

    What You'll Do
    No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
    • Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive one
    • Educate customers about wine, spirits, and beer products and help them find the right selection for any occasion
    • Operate the cash register accurately and process all customer transactions at the point of purchase
    • Rotate, face, and replenish merchandise and ensure the highest quality standards are met throughout the department
    • Maintain displays in the department and throughout the store and build new displays as needed
    • Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
    • Understand and follow all local, state, and company policies on the sale of alcohol
    • Assist with inventory and order product at the supervisor's request
    • Remove trash in a timely manner and maintain a clean, sanitary work area
    • Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call
    • Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
    • Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
    • Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
    • Report to work when scheduled and on time

    Your Skills
    • Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables
    • Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately
    • Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
    • Work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

    Reporting Relationships
    Accountable and Reports to: General Manager; Assistant General Manager; Wine Specialist; Spirits Specialist; Beer Specialist
    Education and Experience
    • No education requirement; over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience preferred
    • Must be at least 21 years of age

    Physical Requirements
    • Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
    • Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
    • Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
    • Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
    • Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
