    About the Team
    The Database Engineering Team at Workday, designs, builds, develops, maintains, and supervises database infrastructure and ensuring that the entire Workday's Data related needs are met with dedication and scale, while providing high availability that our customers expect from Workday. We are a fast paced and diverse team of database specialists and software engineers responsible for designing, automating, managing and running the databases on Private and Public Cloud Platforms. We are looking for individuals who have strong experience in backend development specializing in database as a service with deep experience in Open Source database technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL and other Cloud Native database technologies. You must be adaptable, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in designing, developing and managing enterprise level database systems with complex inter-dependencies and key focus on high-availability, clustering, security, performance, and scalability requirements.
    About the Role
    This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government which, due to federal government security requirements, mandates that all Workday personnel working on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native).

    • This position is responsible for architecting, designing, developing and managing DBaaS service for Workday Database Infrastructure.
    • Design and develop APIs to improve the availability, scalability, and performance of databases running on multiple clouds.
    • Write APIs and develop dashboards to measure database KPIs.
    • Keeps observability as a focus for all database monitoring and improve/implement auto remediation techniques.
    • Provide support for large scale database instances across production, non-production and development environments
    • Serve in an on-call rotation supporting database infrastructure
    • Partner with service and performance teams for continuous architecture improvements, resiliency, and performance.

    About You
    This role may require a security clearance at the TS/SCI W/CI Poly level. Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance. An active TS/SCI w/CI Poly is preferred.
    May be required to be on site at client locations in the DC, MD, and VA (DMV) area
    Basic Qualifications:
    • 6+ years experience in designing/developing/automating and managing mission critical production workloads on Aurora MySQL, RDS MySQL and other Cloud naive databases.
    • 6+ years experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR.
    • 2+ years of experience in backend development using modern programming languages (Golang, Python, Java) including Architecture, Design and Development.
    • 4+ years hands-on experience in Cloud hyperscalers AWS.
    • 4+ years experience managing clustered, highly-available database services deployed on different flavors of Linux.
    • Minimum 5+ years working experience in modern DevOps technologies and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), service deployment, monitoring and scaling.

    Other Qualifications:
    • Preferred DoD 8570/8140 compliant with at least IAT Level II certification, including a current Computing Environment (CE) credential and one approved specialty certification (e.g., CompTIA CySA+, GICSP, CASP+)
    • Knowledge of automation tools such as Terraform, Chef and Ansible.
    • Familiarity with tools such as Ceph Storage, Gluster, Orchestrator for MySQL, Percona MHA, Percona Galera, Vitess, Pure Storage
    • Experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
    • Self-starter, highly motivated and ability to learn quickly.
    • Excellent team player with extraordinary written & verbal communication skills.
    • BS/MS degree in computer science.

    Workday Pay Transparency Statement
    The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate's compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things.     Primary Location Base Pay Range: $137,000 USD - $205,400 USD
    Additional US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $123,900 USD - $222,000 USD
