We are currently searching for an experienced Roadway Engineer Project Manager to support our Gulf Region located in Birmingham, Huntsville or Tuscaloosa, AL.


To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, Alabama PE license.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide plan review and project management for Volkert clients in Alabama
  • Organizing activities, schedules and reports in support of design projects
  • Lead or assist in the development of project designs and directing designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
  • Providing technical design and guidance on projects including preparing engineering studies, documents and reports
  • Assisting the team in development of Engineering Interns
  • Prepare, issue and track project documentation such as contracts, change orders, etc. for all phases of assigned project work.
  • Prepare correspondence and documents with clients, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies as required
  • Market new and existing clients
  • Interacting with clients and the public related to your work and understanding of the context of the plans you develop
  • Adhering to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Alabama Professional Engineer (PE) License is required
  • Other PE licenses and/or certifications are a plus
  • Previous client relationships are a plus
  • ALDOT or local government design experience preferred
  • Able to maintain project schedules, which may require occasional extended hours and overnight travel
  • Experience with computer programs such as MicroStation, ArcGIS, InRoads, various CAD, and OpenRoads Designer
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Must be dependable with the ability to work independently to accomplish tasks as well as part of the team to meet deadlines and provide high quality work
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
