THE VIRTUAL DEISGN & CONSTRUCTION MANAGER OPPORTUNITY 

Turner Construction's Vancouver office is seeking a full-time Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Manager. The role requires availability to work on-site or at the head office, Monday to Friday, for 40 hours per week. The will report to the VDC Manager or the Operations Manager.
The VDC Manager will manage the Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) department within Vancouver and lead preconstruction, engineering, and field installation of VDC project deliverables. This role is accountable for the overall financial performance of the VDC department, including revenue, cost control, labor utilization, and financial impacts across all projects and staff.

As a VDC Manager, you will:

  • Promote and champion Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) services, communicating the value of BIM coordination and digital delivery to project teams, business leaders, and clients.
  • Drive adoption of VDC across projects by engaging stakeholders and positioning VDC as a critical contributor to project success.
  • Advise teams and clients on the benefits of VDC, including improved coordination, reduced risk, enhanced collaboration, and stronger project outcomes.
  • Own and manage the VDC department financials, including annual business planning, revenue forecasting, cost management, and coverage targets.
  • Manage VDC budgets, including forecasting and tracking costs for staffing, third-party resources, and technology. Ensure alignment with project and business financial goals.
  • Establish and monitor key financial metrics, including billable utilization, effective labor rates, and cost recovery, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Drive accountability for project-level financial performance by ensuring VDC Project Managers effectively manage scope, budget, and staffing.
  • Plan and manage team resources, including capacity planning, work assignments, and support for hiring initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop VDC team members through coaching, performance feedback, and training opportunities.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to support recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Develop and implement VDC execution plans aligned with project goals and client requirements.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing VDC content and visuals for proposals and presentations.
  • Drive continuous improvement of VDC processes, tools, and workflows to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance margins through process and technology improvements.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and digital tools to advance VDC capabilities.
  • Stay current with industry trends and actively contribute to innovation in VDC practices.
  • Establish and maintain consistent project workflows, documentation standards, and lessons learned.
  • Monitor VDC deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with project requirements.Visit job sites as needed to support implementation, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations to support cost tracking, reimbursement opportunities, and accurate reporting.
  • Ensure accurate department-wide time tracking, cost coding, and financial reporting to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Support team supervision activities, including onboarding, performance management, and career development.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Is this role right for you:

  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited degree program in Construction Management, Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), Architectural, Engineering, or related field of study, and minimum 8 years of related experience, and with progressive exposure to design, cost, sequence, logistics, and field installations of project components as it relates to VDC, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of VDC tools and applications in construction, cost, scheduling, estimating, and coordination principles
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with demonstrated experience managing department-level budgets, forecasting revenue, and driving profitability
  • Able to establish, forecast, and manage to budget
  • Advanced project management expertise, able to develop, communicate and implement processes
  • Knowledgeable of economic and social issues, trends, impacts to local community and trades and able to develop professional network with related industry organizations
  • Advanced presentation delivery skills to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences and influence
    decision making
  • Influential relationship building skills, able to lead and influence others that are not direct reports
