About this role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Credit Risk Officer to join the Credit Enablement Strategy team. This role will focus on originations credit strategy analytics, performance monitoring, and strategic recommendations that help inform how customers are evaluated, approved, priced, and assigned credit lines across acquisition channels.

This individual will play a key role in evaluating the effectiveness of credit strategies, identifying performance trends, diagnosing business and risk outcomes, and translating analytical findings into recommendations for senior leaders. The role requires strong analytical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to connect credit strategy decisions to business growth, profitability, customer outcomes, and risk management objectives.

The Lead Credit Risk Officer will partner across Risk, Product, Marketing, Finance, Modeling, Technology, Operations, Compliance, Fair Lending, and control partners to influence strategy discussions and support well-informed business decisions. Success in this role requires the ability to work with large datasets, use analytical tools for data extraction and summary, develop clear insights, and communicate complex findings through executive-ready storytelling.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead analytical workstreams supporting originations credit strategy, including underwriting, credit line assignment, pricing, acquisition channels, and portfolio performance

  • Evaluate credit strategy performance by analyzing application volume, approval rates, booked account trends, credit quality, customer profiles, credit line assignment, pricing, and early performance outcomes

  • Identify drivers of performance trends, variances, risks, and opportunities, and translate findings into strategic recommendations for business and risk leaders

  • Use data and analytical tools to extract, summarize, and interpret information that supports strategy monitoring, performance diagnostics, and decision-making

  • Develop insights and recommendations that help assess whether credit strategies are supporting growth, profitability, customer acquisition, and risk management objectives

  • Lead recurring monitoring and reporting routines that provide visibility into originations strategy performance and support timely leadership discussions

  • Support forecasting, valuation, and scenario analysis related to acquisition volume, booked accounts, credit exposure, channel performance, and strategy changes

  • Influence cross-functional partners by connecting analytical findings to practical business implications, tradeoffs, and recommended actions

  • Prepare executive-ready materials, presentations, and talking points that synthesize complex analysis into clear narratives for senior leadership, business reviews, risk assessments, and governance forums

  • Support test-and-learn activities, measurement plans, and post-implementation monitoring for credit strategy changes, policy updates, or business initiatives

  • Partner with Product, Marketing, Finance, Modeling, Technology, Operations, Compliance, Fair Lending, and control partners to align analytical insights with business priorities, implementation needs, and governance expectations

  • Build or enhance reusable reporting, standardized datasets, dashboards, data quality checks, and analytical routines that improve consistency, transparency, and speed to insight

  • Maintain clear documentation of assumptions, methodology, monitoring results, recommendations, and decision rationale to support governance, auditability, and independent review

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Credit Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience leading or supporting credit risk strategy, originations strategy, underwriting, credit line assignment, pricing, customer acquisition, or portfolio performance analytics

  • Experience within credit card, small business lending, commercial card, consumer credit, unsecured lending, or revolving credit products

  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills, including experience diagnosing performance drivers, evaluating tradeoffs, and developing recommendations

  • Experience monitoring originations, acquisition, underwriting, credit quality, approval, booked account, or early performance trends

  • Experience using analytical tools such as SQL, SAS, Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools for data extraction, analysis, reporting, or visualization

  • Ability to translate complex data and analysis into clear insights, executive-ready materials, and leadership-level recommendations

  • Experience influencing business decisions through data-driven insights, performance diagnostics, and cross-functional partnership

  • Experience partnering across Risk, Product, Marketing, Finance, Modeling, Operations, Technology, Compliance, Fair Lending, or control functions

  • Knowledge of credit policy, fair lending considerations, customer targeting, profitability measurement, portfolio risk indicators, or strategy governance practices

  • Experience building or enhancing reporting, dashboards, reusable datasets, data quality checks, automated routines, or standardized analytical processes

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
