ROLE OVERVIEW

Are you an experienced Project Manager with demonstrated success in Heavy Civil, Mine Reclamation, or Mining disciplines? Here's an exciting opportunity to be part of something groundbreaking as Thiess continues our work in the Mountain West area of the USA.

We are currently inviting applications from experienced Project Managers to support the initiation and delivery of upcoming projects across the United States. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping safe, efficient, and innovative project management practices while contributing to the growth of our North American operations.

The role offers ongoing involvement in a strong pipeline of future projects, providing long-term career development and the opportunity to deliver high-impact outcomes.

As Project Manager, you will be engaged in all levels of project delivery, from client engagement, working collaboratively with stakeholders, technical experts to deliver innovative technical, value-added solutions within set schedules and budgets, hiring and interviewing, development of budgets, schedules and reports, coordination of project staff and sub-contractors to ensure safe, cost effective, efficient and timely completion of work in order to meet and/or exceed client expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project development, project study involvement and operational readiness activities to ensure that projects are appropriately resourced, costed and planned to ensure success
  • Manage, influence, and empower direct reports to execute the required and planned tasks to ensure performance targets are achieved
  • Leading a site team that works collaboratively with the client's project team, unionized contingent workers and first nations sub-contractors to deliver superior performance over the contract period
  • Establishing and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals at all levels, both internal and external to Thiess and the client
  • Ensure well developed production and maintenance schedules are in place for mining to enable the contractual requirements to be met
  • Ensure production and operations outcomes are monitored and reported to guarantee weekly, monthly, and quarterly targets are achieved
  • Demonstrate and maintain a high standard of personal safety, safety leadership and a commitment to the safety of fellow workers
  • Build and maintain healthy client and partner relationships
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Minimum 5 years' project management experience in your chosen discipline (mining, heavy civil, or reclamation)
  • Strong skills in earthworks, mining methods, engineering, and planning
  • Competence in project planning, scheduling, and execution
  • Solid financial, commercial, and contractual acumen
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience managing medium to large teams
  • Understanding of risk management and incident investigation principles
  • Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive client relationships
  • Resilient and flexible, embracing a startup mentality
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with JD Edwards (ERP) highly regarded
  • Experience leading cross-cultural teams and engaging with international stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and high personal safety standards
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for site visits and supplier meetings
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a problem-solving mindset that embraces innovation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Occasional in-state, out-of-state, and out-of-country travel to meet with suppliers or perform site visits
  • Ability to attend and participate in meetings
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at time

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Relevant certifications

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is required
  • Must be fluent in the English language
  • Domestic and Regional travel required
  • Full-Time position – this will be on site at a project, hours will vary
  • Current, valid passport
