    Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Blacksburg, VA office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our growing practice. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates with a geology or other science-based degree to enter the civil engineering industry. This position is also a good fit for anyone interested in construction who enjoys hands-on work.
    Job Responsibilities:
    • Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and sprayed-on fireproofing
    • Reporting of test results and site observations
    • Soil and concrete laboratory testing

    Required Skills/Experience:
    • High School degree
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Possess good oral, written, communication, and organizational skills
    • Able to perform rudimentary mathematic computations
    • Attentive to detail
    • Interest in working outdoors on construction sites
    • Candidates must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds on an occasional basis and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside
    • Construction experience is preferred but not required

    Other Requirements:
    • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history and motor vehicle record
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening

    The compensation range for this role is between $16/hr to $22/hr. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
