Job description

The Opportunity:
At Safran Federal Systems, we value internships that align well with intern growth as well as company growth. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for designing, fabricating and testing mechanical designs for precision GPS-based products, and simulators, while working under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.
Our Technology:
Safran Federal Systems provides
Resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (R-PNT)solutions and custom engineering services to U.S. Government agencies, defense organizations and their contractors. Safran Federal Systems is authorized to work on the full spectrum of U.S. Government classified and unclassified projects, in addition to supporting strategic partnerships for key defense PNT technologies.
How I will Contribute:
  • Working closely with Senior and Lead Engineers in an office and lab space environment designing the latest GPS-based and alternative PNT hardware.
  • Testing new prototypes and hardware revisions to new and legacy products to ensure our products meet the highest standards and specifications.
  • Devising test procedures, experiments, test fixtures; performing those tests, analyzing the results and generating comprehensive test reports and recommendations.
  • Analyzing problem reports and designing fixes or revisions
  • Working with vendors, subcontractors, and customers to understand their needs and applications toward solving problems in deployments

What you bring to the role:
  • Current enrollment in college (Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology)
  • Conceptual understanding of mechanical design concepts and best practices encompassing structures, vibration and heat transfer
  • Basic understanding of modern fabrication techniques both additive and subtractive in nature
  • Experience with one or more 3D modeling SW suites (Inventor preferred, Solidworks, Creo, etc.)
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • The ability to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Curiosity and passion for mechanical engineering and technology with the ability to learn.
  • Experience with machine shop tools is a plus
