    Job description

You get to ideate, create, execute, and measure your results.
Roadrunner is the most tech-forward company in LTL. We built a proprietary Smart Network that delivers fewer touches, faster transit, real-time visibility, and real accountability. The service is differentiated. The point of view is clear. Marketing has not yet fully translated that advantage into market dominance.
That's the opportunity. You will own strategy and execution. You will invent new content, new narratives, and new ways of reaching customers, owner operators, drivers, and talent. You will build systems that scale, including AI-enabled workflows that make the whole company faster from a marketing perspective. Your work will also strengthen company culture, improve internal communications, and support retention of both employees and owner operators. You will work directly with leadership in a lean, PE-backed environment that rewards ownership and speed.
    What You'll Own

    1. Strategy & Market Positioning

You won't inherit a finished playbook. You'll help write the one that redefines the category.

    • Own the marketing strategy that positions Roadrunner as the Category of One leader, not just another LTL carrier, but the company rewriting how freight moves.
    • Drive the transformation of brand and company positioning so we stand apart from traditional LTL and lead beyond the boundaries of the industry as it exists today.
    • Challenge the status quo in an industry that evolves too slowly. Invent messaging, narratives, and offers that force the market to raise its standards.
    • Identify white space competitors ignore and turn it into clear competitive separation and brand preference.

    2. Growth Engine & Acquisition

Build the machine that brings in new customers. Then keep improving it.

    • Design and run integrated campaigns across digital, paid media, email, social, content, and emerging channels that drive MQLs, talent and sales pipeline and contribution to the bottom line.
    • Own HubSpot (or equivalent) architecture: segmentation, nurture, scoring, automation, and clean handoff.
    • Treat every campaign as an experiment. Kill underperformers fast. Double down on what works. Document what you learn.
    • Build executive-ready reporting that connects marketing activity to new customer acquisition and revenue outcomes, not vanity metrics.

    3. Content Creation & Brand Presence

This is a creation role, not a maintenance role. You will help transform how the brand shows up.

    • Invent and produce high-impact content that advances Roadrunner's position as the Category of One, case studies, thought leadership, testimonials from owner operators, collateral, nurture sequences, video concepts, LinkedIn narratives, social media narratives, and website/landing pages experiences.
    • Own Roadrunner's LinkedIn presence as a primary brand and demand channel, use it to challenge industry assumptions, grow credibility, and make the market pay attention.
    • Build a scalable content system so quality rises even as volume increases. Leverage AI tools aggressively to accelerate production without sacrificing voice or point of view.
    • Shape brand expression across digital, physical, and experiential touchpoints so every interaction reinforces that Roadrunner is leading the way, outside the limits of traditional LTL.

    4. AI-Enabled Systems & Operational Efficiency

Make the company faster. Embed AI into how marketing, and the broader organization-works.

    • Design and maintain reusable AI prompt frameworks and brand guidelines so teams across the company can generate on-brand materials consistently inside AI platforms.
    • Build self-serve content resources and repeatable, testable content systems that internal teams, sales, and partners can use without bottlenecks.
    • Apply AI and automation to recurring administrative and operational workflows, reducing manual effort, improving consistency, and shortening turnaround time across departments.
    • Continuously identify where AI can remove friction in marketing and adjacent processes, then implement practical solutions that stick.

    5. Talent, Owner-Operator & Employee Marketing

Attract the right people. Help them stay.

    • Design and run recruitment marketing that attracts high-quality CDL drivers, owner operators, and key employees-measure and optimize like a true growth channel.
    • Create targeted campaigns, messaging, and content specifically for owner-operator acquisition and retention.
    • Partner with talent acquisition and operations to support employee recruiting with clear, compelling materials and campaigns.
    • Develop content and programs that improve owner-operator and employee retention by reinforcing why Roadrunner is the better place to work and run a business.

    6. Culture, Internal Communications & Retention

Marketing doesn't stop at the front door. Strengthen the culture from the inside.

    • Own and improve employee internal communications, newsletters, leadership messages, culture content, and recognition programs that keep the team informed and connected.
    • Create content and campaigns that reinforce company culture, values, and the "We Run Safe. We Run Smart. We Run Together." identity.
    • Support employee and owner-operator retention through clear communication, storytelling, and programs that make people feel seen and valued.
    • Partner with leadership and HR to ensure internal messaging stays consistent with the external brand and helps reduce turnover.
    How You Operate
    • You own outcomes.
    • You move with urgency while keeping structure and clarity.
    • You balance creative risk with attention to detail and rigor.
    • You communicate with purpose.
    • You identify gaps and solve them.
    • You prioritize ruthlessly by business impact.
    What You Bring
    • 3-5+ years of B2B marketing experience with clear evidence of driving pipeline and awareness.
    • Proven ability to own or heavily shape strategy, not only execute a plan handed to you.
    • Hands-on strength with marketing automation (HubSpot preferred), paid search/social, and performance reporting.
    • Exceptional writing and storytelling. You can make complex industrial and technology stories feel sharp, human, and persuasive.
    • Marketing content and asset production: building on-brand marketing materials, self-serve content resources, and repeatable, testable content systems for internal teams and partners.
    • AI enablement and brand systems: developing reusable, standardized AI prompt frameworks and brand guidelines so teams across the company can generate on-brand materials consistently within AI platforms.
    • Operational process automation: applying AI and automation to recurring administrative and operational workflows across departments, reducing manual effort and improving consistency and turnaround time.
    • Marketing support for complex accounts: producing materials and communications for strategic and complex customer accounts based on direction from leadership.
    • High comfort using AI tools to create, iterate, and scale content without losing quality or brand voice.
    • Project management muscle and the ability to run multiple workstreams without dropping the ball.
    • Comfort operating in a lean, fast-moving environment where you wear multiple hats and invent process as needed.
    • Preferred: experience in transportation, logistics, freight, industrial, or other complex B2B categories.
    • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
    Why This Role Is Different

Most marketing roles at established logistics companies are about protecting the brand and running proven playbooks. This one is about inventing the next chapter-and making a measurable impact on how we attract customers, owner operators, and talent, and how we keep them.

You will have direct access to senior leadership. Your work will have a clear line to pipeline, brand equity, hiring outcomes, culture, and retention. The company is PE-backed and moving with urgency-decisions happen, ownership is rewarded, and high performers get more scope.

If you want a polished, fully staffed marketing department with every process already defined, this is not the role. If you want to build something that matters and leave a visible mark on how the industry sees Roadrunner-and how our people experience working here, it is.

    Why Roadrunner

Roadrunner exists to prove that LTL can be better than the industry has settled for. We rejected the quiet belief that "this is just how it works." We built a proprietary Smart Network for direct, long-haul, metro-to-metro service that delivers fewer touches, faster transit, real-time visibility, and genuine accountability.

We are the most tech-forward company in LTL, and we are not finished widening the gap. Recognized among Built In Chicago's Best Large Places to Work. Earning top marks for improvement, quality, and service. The foundation is strong. The real opportunity is still ahead.

We look for ambitious, smart people who excel at execution over talking about it, and who would rather invent the next standard in freight than accept the status quo. We Run Safe. We Run Smart. We Run Together.

    Compensation & Setup
    • Pay: $70,000-$90,000 base salary
    • Location: Onsite - Downers Grove, IL
    • Benefits: Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off

    About Roadrunner

Roadrunner is for ambitious, smart people who excel at execution over talking about it, and who would rather invent the next standard in freight than accept the status quo.

We are looking for the Best of the Best. Action driven leaders who want to be part of real change and help design the future of LTL in the U.S. This is a place where high performers can grow, influence outcomes, and make an impact while working directly with executives and smart people from across industries.

We bring a winner mindset. We take ownership, raise the bar, and measure ourselves by results. We Run Safe. We Run Smart. We Run Together. These principles create an environment of high standards, clear ownership, and direct collaboration. We trust data over intuition, move with urgency, and hold each other accountable because winning requires it.

Roadrunner exists to prove that LTL can be better than the industry has settled for. To be the best means we need to think bigger, look outside the box, and question every assumption: too many handoffs, limited visibility, and the quiet belief that "this is just how it works." We rejected that story. We built a proprietary Smart Network for direct, long haul, metro to metro service that delivers fewer touches, faster transit, real time visibility, and genuine accountability. We are the most tech forward company in LTL, and we are not finished widening the gap.

The foundation is already strong. Recognized as one of Built In Chicago's Best Large Places to Work. Earning top marks for improvement, quality, and service. The real opportunity is still ahead: helping invent what comes next.

If you want to be evaluated among the Best of the Best and help set the new standard in LTL, we should talk.
