Job description

Partner with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and project teams to enforce site compliance with EH&S programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. This role involves leading safety training, promoting best practices, and guiding project teams in managing environmental and hazardous material conditions. The Project Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing safety efforts on a single construction project, ensuring risk mitigation and regulatory adherence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead, direct, and enforce EH&S compliance on an assigned construction project in accordance with corporate safety policies and staffing requirements.
  • Assess project safety practices, identify risks, and develop action plans to mitigate exposures while enhancing safety awareness across project teams.
  • Communicate safety performance expectations to project leadership and teams, ensuring compliance with site-specific safety standards, best management practices, and EH&S policies.
  • Monitor site safety trends and actively work to reduce project incident rates by meeting or exceeding business unit safety goals.
  • Develop and implement project-specific training programs to educate employees, subcontractors, and trades on EH&S programs, policies, and safe work practices.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as contractual safety requirements.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with project staff and subcontractor safety representatives.
  • Develop and enforce the project safety program, ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Identify and address unsafe actions and conditions, implementing immediate corrective actions in compliance with safety regulations and contractual requirements.
  • Establish accountability measures to ensure pre-planning for activities and tasks involving subcontractors and trades.
  • Review and approve subcontractor safety programs to ensure compliance with EH&S policies, regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Evaluate the quality of PTPs for subcontractors and trades to confirm adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Conduct pre-construction safety meetings with subcontractors to review job hazard analyses and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop safety action items from preconstruction meetings and verify that subcontractors conduct OSHA-compliant training.
  • Administer and maintain records of effective worker orientation programs for new employees.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to generate safety reports, assess key metrics, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain documentation of subcontractors toolbox talks and conduct regular safety audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of four years of construction safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CHST certification required (or must be obtained within two years of hire).
  • OSHA 30-hour certification, along with current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.
  • Practical understanding of safety and environmental principles and their application in construction environments.
  • Ability to assess safety risks, identify exposures, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with general construction operations and project management processes.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional relationships across project teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver engaging safety presentations.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to analyze data and solve complex problems.
