Key responsibilities include performing routine preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues, and using both hand and power tools. The role requires a strong focus on safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Profile
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Level A Bus Mechanic who demonstrates a strong "safety first" attitude to join our team. In this role, you will perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of bus systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation in a demanding 24/7 environment. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, attention to detail, and excellent problem-solving skills with a customer-focused and professional demeanor.

  • Use diagnostic computer software (e.g., Cummins Insite, Allison DOC) and equipment to troubleshoot and repair sub-components on all bus types
  • Follow and interpret technical schematics and repair manuals accurately
  • Operate hand and power tools, in-ground and portable hoists, as well as precision instruments to complete assigned tasks safely
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment and adhere strictly to all safety protocols
  • Keep detailed electronic repair records, work history, and maintenance logs
  • Test drive vehicles to verify proper operation and diagnose issues
  • Perform minor fabrication, welding, grinding, and soldering as necessary
  • Provide technical support and assist in the training of lower-level mechanics
  • Take on backfill supervisory duties as assigned
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and non-technical personnel, documenting solutions clearly
  • Work cohesively in a team environment to ensure vehicle safety and meet operational deadlines
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year progressive heavy equipment maintenance experience preferred
  • Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems on buses
  • Strong computer skills including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and diagnostic software
  • Ability to read and understand complex schematics and technical documentation
  • Customer-focused attitude with high professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, diligent, and capable of working independently with limited supervision
  • Excellent time management, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Flexible and committed to working in a 24/7 operational environment
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL endorsement desirable
  • Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses, or seminars is a plus
