    Job Description

    We are seeking an experienced, business-minded attorney to serve as Senior Counsel, Litigation & Operations. This role will help lead the company's litigation strategy while acting as a key legal partner to field operations and cross-functional teams. The position requires a proactive advisor who can deliver practical, risk-based guidance in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment. 

    Key Responsibilities: 

    Litigation Management:  

    • Lead and manage all litigation, administrative matters, and other legal disputes. 

    • Develop strategy aligned with business objectives and risk tolerance. 

    • Take lessons learned and translate into pragmatic, business-minded guidance. 

    • Oversee outside counsel, including budgeting and performance. 

    • Represent the company in mediations and drive efficient resolution strategies. 

    • Analyze litigation trends to inform risk mitigation and business decisions. 

    Operational & Business Counseling  

    • Provide day-to-day legal advice to field operations and business teams.  

    • Advise on customer issues and operational initiatives.  

    • Partner cross-functionally to support business growth while managing risk. 

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.  

    Regulatory, Compliance & Risk 

    • Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local laws. 

    • Focus areas include consumer protection, marketing, pricing, data privacy, legislative affairs, and call center.    

    • Develop and implement policies, training, and controls to mitigate risk.  

    Disputes & Investigations  

    • Handle escalated customer matters and regulatory inquiries. 

    • Conduct internal investigations as needed. 

    • Ensure consistent, timely, and defensible responses. 

    Legal Operations & Reporting  

    • Manage litigation spend and support legal budgeting.  

    • Contribute to P&L and reporting processes.  

    • Improve processes and leverage legal technology (e.g., matter management systems).  

    Qualifications
    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school 

    • Admission to a state bar and in good standing, with the ability to practice law as in-house counsel in Texas 

    • 10+ years of experience, with a focus on litigation and/or business counseling 

    • Strong judgment, analytical ability, and communication skills.  

    • Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets.  

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

    • Experience in an in-house environment preferred.   

    Preferred Experience (nice to haves, but not required) 

    • Government or regulatory investigations 

    • Personal injury or other high-volume litigation 

    • Consumer protection, marketing, or data privacy laws 

    • REITs, real estate, or self-storage industry 

    • TCPA, recording/wiretapping laws, or similar 

    • Legislative affairs  

    • Matter management or ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow)
