Job description

Overview
A nationally recognized architecture, engineering, and planning firm, with 12 offices across the U.S., is seeking a creative and driven Structural Project Engineer to join their collaborative team in either the Santa Monica or Sacramento office. The ideal candidate is design-focused, highly technical, and thrives within an interdisciplinary, team-oriented environment.
As a Structural Project Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative and impactful projects across a diverse range of building types. You'll address complex structural challenges and develop solutions that advance design excellence, performance, and sustainability.
The company champions a culture that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and diverse perspectives, striving to create meaningful impact for clients, communities, and team members alike.
Engineers at the firm benefit from opportunities to work across multiple sectors-including advanced laboratories, healthcare facilities, academic campuses, performance spaces, museums, civic buildings, and corporate headquarters-fostering professional growth and continuous learning.
As demand grows for sustainable, high-performance environments, the firm utilizes data-driven strategies to deliver measurable improvements and strives to create buildings that perform better, are more durable, and provide lasting value.
Responsibilities
  • Lead structural engineering design for a variety of building projects.
  • Collaborate closely with architects and engineers from multiple disciplines.
  • Plan, coordinate, mentor, and assign tasks to structural engineers on the team, contributing to team growth and development.
  • Manage workplans for structural personnel, develop fee proposals, and support marketing.
  • Keep project management informed of structural progress and communicate changes in schedule, services, or project scope.
  • Perform structural analysis, calculations, design, and detailing for various framing and foundation systems using all primary building materials and applicable codes.
  • Oversee the development and completion of structural drawings and construction documents.
  • Act as the primary structural engineering contact during construction administration, including coordinating meetings, reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs and field questions, and conducting site visits.
  • Collaborate virtually and share knowledge with engineers across offices to support project needs and promote consistency and learning.
  • Participate in construction administration and regular site observations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university; Master's preferred.
  • 8-10 years of experience in structural design and analysis of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood buildings, with a focus on laboratory, healthcare, commercial, and educational facilities.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) in California (required).
  • Extensive working knowledge of California Building Code (CBC), ASCE 7 & 41, AISC, ACI, NDS, and related standards.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis/design software such as ETABS, SAP, SAFE, RAM, RISA, Enercalc, or similar programs.
  • Strong planning and organizational capabilities, comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to embrace new challenges.
  • Skilled in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams-architects, consultants, and clients-to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to lead client meetings and convey technical concepts clearly.
  • Expertise in project management with ability to juggle multiple projects, budgets, schedules, and deliverables concurrently.
  • A passion for advancing innovative, enduring design.
  • Adaptability and ability to work effectively with diverse team members and management styles.
