    Job description

    Hybrid role in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Much of the work will be performed in our network lab setting, and will include working with vendors and internal departments, along with device and application testing. Occasional overnight or maintenance work, as required.
    Job Summary:
    The Network Engineer I - Architecture is responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing Midco's network infrastructure. This role executes network changes, supports security and disaster recovery readiness, and helps ensure the network remains scalable, stable, and protected from external threats. They collaborate across engineering teams, works independently on network improvement projects, and maintains accurate technical documentation to support operational effectiveness. This position also contributes to future capacity planning, network standardization, and performance visibility through continuous improvement and technical expertise.
    Responsibilities:
    • Actively manage the design and maintenance of the Midco network. This includes, but is not limited to: LAN, WAN, and MAN networks, routers, switches, and optical shelves.
    • Execute MOPs to implement network changes.
    • Working knowledge of BGP, OSPF, ISIS, TCP/IP, OSI Model, Multicast, SNMP, and other commonly used networking standards and protocols.
    • Collaborate across engineering teams to meet business goals.
    • Communicate and maintain up-to-date, accurate documentation for passwords, diagrams, security, etc.
    • Ensure proactively that the Midco network is secure from outside attack or penetration.
    • Proactively plan for future capacity and execute related action plans.
    • Work independently on large projects to augment networks, drive network standardization.
    • Share in-depth knowledge of the Midco network and its components within team.
    • Engage vendors to assist in testing new products and troubleshooting network issues.
    • Ensure viable disaster recovery and back up plans are in place for all network elements.
    • Propose development of system utilities and tools to enhance network performance metrics visibility.
    • Model Midco's mission, vision, values, ethos, and Leadership Success Drivers, and inspire others to do the same.
    • Ensure customer privacy by adhering to Midco's privacy guidelines while actively following Midco policies and procedures.
    • Maintain reliable and predictable attendance as required by the position.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Associate's degree in related industry and/or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum 7 years of network engineering experience.
    • CCNA or JNCIA certifications.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Previous experience in telecommunications industry.

    Physical Demands:
    • Movement through office, customer, and field environments may involve walking, standing, bending, reaching, and similar routine physical actions during site visits and team interactions.
    • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 50 lbs.
    • Requires frequent standing and walking to access network equipment and test locations.
