Position Available: Distribution Operations supervisor
Job Summary:
The Operation Manager is the direct supervisor of the distribution center floor employees and reports to the DC Manager. Leads the team directly on the warehouse floor both physically and professionally. Communicates and collaborates with the team leads to support the operations of the distribution center. Oversees distribution center employees on the floor with products and assists with budget and inventory.
Essential Duties amp; Responsibilities:
  • Main Responsibilities
    • Lead distribution center operations both physically and professionally; understands space utilization and optimization; fulfills customer expectations; ensures an overall lean operation.
    • Meets operational standards by managing the distribution center’s metric data. Communicates results to drive performance.
    • Demonstrates business acumen through understanding the business’ long-term goals, context, and end consumers.
    • Adaptable, approaches obstacles with persistence and a positive attitude.
    • Implements customer-service standards for internal and external customers.
    • Uses systems thinking, displays an understanding of how one’s own work affects other functions or groups.
    • Maintains distribution center safety, OSHA, and FDA operational standards.
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
  • Supervisor/Manager Responsibilities
    • Accomplishes staffing objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
    • Works with the Distribution Center Manager and the HR Director to resolve employee relations issues.
    • Efficiently and effectively plan labor to maximize current labor and minimize temp labor.
    • Guides new distribution center employees through orientation and continues to provide coaching through their career.
    • Communicates job expectations to employees using 90-day plans, success plans and coordinates PIP plans as needed.
    • Plans, monitors, and appraises employee job contributions.
    • Supervises the Shipping, Receiving and Storage Leads.
    • Ensures employees adhere to policies and procedures, recommends compensation actions.
  • Financial and Operational Responsibilities
    • Coordinates with Distribution Center Manager and Staff Accountant to meet distribution center financial standards by facilitating consistent and accurate billing; quote new business opportunities, assists in monthly budget planning; monitors expenditures; identifies variances; implements corrective actions.
    • Drives cost savings in conjunction with Distribution Center Manager and Staff Accountant.
    • Procures and monitors supplies; coordinates with facility manager to maintain equipment.
    • Monitors equipment by enforcing operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and scheduling maintenance.
    • Drives interior and exterior area cleanliness; adhering to storage design principles; recommends improvements; participates in SOP maintenance.
    • Plans preventive maintenance for facility and calls for repairs.
    • Secures distribution center by reviewing security cameras, performs end of day perimeter walk, and locks facility.
    • Accomplishes distribution center and organization’s mission by networking, maintaining compliance and certifications, and completing related results as needed.
  • Inventory Responsibilities
    • Schedules inbound and outbound shipments, resolves problems, understands distribution center systems, and identifies improvements.
    • Maintains inventory controls with data integrity in ERP. Coordinates with Office Manager to ensure timely data entry; conducting daily physical counts; reconciling variances; producing reports as required.
    • Coordinate with QA Manager on product issues received from manufacturer.
    • Drives conversation between departments (supply chain, procurement, and logistics) for inventory accuracy inbound/outbound and external carriers.
    • Coordinates with admin to move inventory internally to distribution center and externally to customers; assists internal departments with pulling and mailing samples.
    • Coordinate with product development team on potential new items specs, packaging, and inventory projections.
    • Performs quality assurance checks on inventory management, ensuring FIFO is being utilized for the bins.
Skills amp; Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent 10 years of related experience in supply chain, specifically 5 in distribution centers or warehousing
  • 1-3 years of experience in supply chain, preferably in a distribution or warehousing environment
  • Understanding of budget overseeing and accountability
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgement in stressful situations
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills, ability to lead other and influence at various levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Candidates must be flexible to work the occasional weekend during peak seasons
  • Integrity and trustworthiness, high standards of conduct, and strong leadership qualities.
  • Experience with Netsuite preferred.
Work Environment: Warehouse Environment – working with and around a variety of equipment, parts, and inventory
Physical Demands:
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard warehouse setting and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, and climb to complete daily work activities.
  • Must be able to lift and lower boxes weighing:
    • Up to 10 lbs, frequently (up to 30 times per hour) from floor to above waist level (4” to 50”).
    • Up to 19 lbs, occasionally (up to 20 times per hour) within the same height range.
    • Up to 50 lbs, infrequently (up to 1 time per hour).
  • Must be able to carry boxes weighing up to 50 lbs for short distances (approximately 2 feet), including lifting from a height of 37" down to floor level.
  • Must be able to grasp and manipulate objects requiring up to 30 lbs of force, up to 30 repetitions per hour.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend steps up to 10 inches in height, with or without carrying up to 10 lbs.
  • Must be able to push, pull, or maneuver objects weighing up to 50 lbs regularly, and heavier weights with mechanical assistance.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking are required in this role.
