Job description

The Senior Engineer, R&D Mechanical Design will be responsible for the design of various mechanical assemblies, from 3D conceptual, over required calculations and simulations, to detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications of bought parts, as part of our global technology development activities and as a member of the specific project team. This role uses advanced software tools, enabling FEA and motion simulations.

The full-time annual base pay for this position in Belgium is expected to range between 75.000,- EUR and 105.000,- EUR. Initial salary placement within this range will be determined based on role‑related factors such as experience, qualifications, and expected contribution.

What you will do:
  • Translate customer requirements into innovative designs and organize/participate in design reviews during the design phase.
  • Actively participate in the assembly of your prototype designs and implement key learnings to optimize the final product.
  • Ensure a smooth transfer of technology and design specifications to the manufacturing facilities throughout the project phases.
  • Focus on safety and environmental aspects (e.g., noise reduction) while ensuring high functional levels, robustness, and ease of maintenance.
  • Identify wear parts during the conceptual phase and minimize them, balancing investment against repair and maintenance costs.
  • Produce accurate assembly/detailed drawings and parts lists, ensuring proper electronic filing and database management.
  • Request quotes for fabrication and trade purchase items, and closely follow up on deliveries to guarantee high component quality.
  • Act as the internal go-to expert for the CAD software, safeguard drawing standards, and execute Design Change Requests (DCRs) promptly.
  • Daily coach, support, and train (temporary) contract draftsmen to get them up to speed and operational as efficiently as possible.
What we are looking for:
  • 10 years experience mechanical designing
  • Extensive experience in state of the art machinery development
  • Proven experience and interest in new technologies
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills, enabling you to collaborate with other teams as well as to work independently
  • Flexible and creative mindset
  • Strong pragmatic skills with the ability to balance efficiency and quality, combined with an eye for detail to ensure accurate and polished results
  • Fluency in Dutch and English
