Job description

Position Summary

Lantern Inn & Suites is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and service-oriented Handyman to support the daily operations of the hotel. This position combines responsibilities in laundry operations, housekeeping support (houseman duties), and minor engineering/maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for our guests and team members.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, physically capable, and takes pride in maintaining high hospitality standards.

Essential Responsibilities

Laundry Operations

  • Operate commercial washers, dryers, and folding equipment.
  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize hotel linens, towels, and uniforms.
  • Maintain adequate linen inventory for guestrooms and housekeeping.
  • Report equipment malfunctions immediately.
  • Keep the laundry area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.

Houseman Duties

  • Deliver clean linens, towels, and guest supplies to housekeeping staff.
  • Remove soiled linens and trash from guestroom floors.
  • Clean public areas, hallways, stairwells, and exterior walkways as needed.
  • Set up and move furniture for meetings or special events.
  • Assist housekeeping with deep cleaning projects.
  • Respond promptly to guest requests such as extra towels, pillows, blankets, and amenities.

Engineering & Maintenance

  • Perform minor repairs including:
    • Painting and touch-ups
    • Drywall patching
    • Door and lock adjustments
    • Plumbing repairs (faucets, toilets, drains)
    • Basic electrical work (light bulbs, switches, outlets)
    • Furniture assembly and repairs
  • Conduct preventative maintenance in guestrooms and public areas.
  • Replace HVAC filters and perform basic HVAC maintenance.
  • Maintain pool area, exterior grounds, and parking lot.
  • Inspect guestrooms for maintenance issues before they are returned to service.
  • Report major repair needs to management.

Guest Service Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Interact courteously with guests and respond promptly to requests.
  • Follow all hotel policies, safety procedures, and brand standards.
  • Support other departments during busy periods as needed.
