Job description

The Extrusion Technician is responsible for operating and monitoring extrusion equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality pipe production. This position requires maintaining process control, performing quality checks, assisting with equipment changeovers, and supporting overall production operations with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate extrusion equipment in accordance with company standards for safety, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Monitor extrusion temperatures, pressures, preheater settings, and other critical process conditions; make adjustments as needed.
  • Assist with product and equipment changeovers.
  • Perform in-process quality checks and inspections according to company specifications.
  • Cut and prepare product samples for Quality Control testing.
  • Accurately record production, inspection, and equipment performance data.
  • Identify and report product defects, equipment issues, or process abnormalities to supervision.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs on production equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including cleaning and painting assigned equipment when required.
  • Relieve other operators during breaks and lunches as assigned.
  • Train and assist new or less experienced employees.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment as required.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions or hazards.
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior manufacturing or extrusion experience preferred.
  • Must successfully complete all required training and progression levels.
  • Must obtain and maintain forklift certification during employment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

Employees in this position must be able to:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds.  
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the work shift.
  • Work around industrial equipment and in confined production areas with limited clearance.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and controls safely.
  • Read and understand production documents, labels, and operating instructions.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Distinguish warning alarms, operational indicators, and product identification markings.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, sweepers, and other powered industrial equipment.

Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing environment with exposure to:

  • Moving mechanical equipment
  • Noise and vibration
  • Heat and changing temperatures
  • Dust and industrial materials

Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
