    Job description

    About Gridware
Gridware is a San Francisco-based technology company dedicated to protecting and enhancing the electrical grid. We pioneered a groundbreaking new class of grid management called active grid response (AGR), focused on monitoring the electrical, physical, and environmental aspects of the grid that affect reliability and safety. Gridware's advanced Active Grid Response platform uses high-precision sensors to detect potential issues early, enabling proactive maintenance and fault mitigation. This comprehensive approach helps improve safety, reduce outages, and ensure the grid operates efficiently. The company is backed by climate-tech and Silicon Valley investors. For more information, please visit www.Gridware.io.
    Role Description
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead the development of systems that manage our growing fleet of devices - the foundation of Gridware's distributed sensing network. The technology you build will empower Fleet Health operators to monitor device performance, issue firmware updates, and ensure our sensors operate reliably and securely at scale.
You'll work across backend services, internal tools, and observability systems - designing the infrastructure that keeps thousands of edge devices connected and healthy. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role at the intersection of software, hardware, and operations - perfect for engineers who thrive on building platforms that directly enable real-world impact.
    Responsibilities
    • Design and build systems for device management, fleet monitoring, and firmware deployment.
    • Develop backend and internal tooling to support large-scale operational workflows.
    • Collaborate closely with firmware, hardware, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and real-time observability.
    • Implement metrics, dashboards, and alerting pipelines to improve visibility into fleet health and reliability.
    • Scale systems to support exponential device growth while maintaining performance and security.

    Required Skills
    • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience at product-driven companies
    • Ability to thrive in a low structure, high-autonomy environment with competing priorities
    • You've built something from the ground up with broad ownership
    • Experience with Python, React, Typescript, PostgreSQL

    Bonus Skills
    • Experience building human-in-the-loop or operationally complex tooling
    • Experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Mimir
    • Experience working in hardware/software contexts

    $190,000 - $220,000 a year
**At this time, Gridware is unable to provide visa sponsorship or immigration support for this role. We're only able to consider candidates who are currently authorized to work in the country of employment without visa sponsorship now or in the future.**
This describes the ideal candidate; many of us have picked up this expertise along the way. Even if you meet only part of this list, we encourage you to apply!
    Benefits
Health, Dental & Vision (Gold and Platinum with some providers plans fully covered)
    Paid parental leave
Alternating day off (every other Monday)
"Off the Grid", a two week per year paid break for all employees.
    Commuter allowance
    Company-paid training
