Job description

Senior Patent Agent- Full Time
Location: san jose, CA, 92570
What you will be doing:

  • Manage communications with outside counsel; guide counsel on the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications.
  • Work with R&D to assess patentability of new inventions.
  • Review and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions on 3rd party IP.
  • Assign products to relevant licenses for royalty reporting.
  • Guide senior management in evaluating licensing and business transactions based on review of relevant IP.
  • Propose strategies for developing the company's patent portfolio.
  • Provide training to company employees regarding intellectual property protection.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and statutes.
  • Propose IP expenditure budgets.
  • Assist in managing expenses to budget.
  • Possibly take on supervisory responsibilities.

Experience you will need:

  • Ph.D. in a life-science discipline; molecular biology and NGS experience preferred.
  • Must be a USPTO registered Patent Agent.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications and conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate searches.
  • Ability to lead IP reviews with key internal stakeholders.
  • Skilled in preparing, filing, and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and effectively manage priorities.
  • Strong advocacy skills in connection with patent prosecution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
